Russian nicknames
« on: June 15, 2010, 08:52:57 AM »
Please post the nicknames for your Russian name (I think there is a thread on that somewhere...I have posted on it) here. Does anyone know of any Russian nicknames for the name Emilia? Was there a Grand Duchess called Emilia?

Emilia doesnt sound like a Russian name. Maybe if that name has a russian variation...

If it exists at all as an Orthodox / native Russian name, I think it would be in the more Greek form Amalia.

Saint Emilia's feast day in the Russian Orthodox church is the 3rd of January - 8 days before my birthday.

Oh, I see: Saint Emilia of Caesarea. Obscure, but mother of five more saints!

Gregory of Nyssa

I'm guessing no relation to Nyssa of Traken :)

Hello, I got your PM (yes my name is Amber, and thankyou for the welcome!), and I was going to reply but whenever I clicked the send button or whatever it was I got an error message that said the letters you typed did not match the ones in the picture. Now on the off chance that it did send or something and you end up with a bunch of Pm's from me all basically saying the same thing, then my apologies.

Hmmm, that's odd.  That's never happened to me.  Anyway, I hope you like this board, Amber :)

I thought it was pretty odd to, I belong to numerous different boards and that has never happened to me before, nothing has even come close. *Fake glares at you* Darn, I was hoping you'd be able to tell me how to fix it. *fake glaring is over with* Lol. What a nuisance that will be if it continues and I can't PM anyone.

Welcome to the forums Amber! Feel free to relax and be yourself on here - I always find it very easy to. I hope you soon fit in and make lots of life-long and valuable friends as I have done, there are a lot of good people on these boards, and I feel we all fit together as a family despite our differences in age, interests, appearances, countries and nationalities! Fyodor Petrovich, thankyou for those Saints' names - I doubt whether Nicky and/or Alix would have thought the names 'Naucratius' and 'Macrina' suitable for future children, lol, but would they have considered Emilia?

There is a whole thread devoted to the issue and possible solutions here.

Lol yes, unlikely. The IF was extremely tradition-bound in the name department. But perhaps not impossible. Though unlikely I think, because I think the IF liked to use names that already had been used by Romanovs or Rurikids or some other very famous Russian (like Tatiana Larina, although she was fictional) and I don't think there were any such Emilias.

Oh, so the crowds of Imperial Russia would never cheer and wave for OTMAE, featuring Ее Императорское Высочество Великая княжна Эмилия Николаевна Романова  из России? How cool would it be if there was another member of OTMA? Or if Nicky and Alix had another baby boy? What would they call the little Grand Duke? What about Rudolph? Is there a Saint Rudolph?
