I've never written to a celebrity, but after living in Southern California for my whole life, one just "runs into" them occasionally. Most "famous" people DO try to live their lives just like everyone else - they go to the dry cleaners, the grocery store, out to eat, etc. - and when encountering them in these locations, it's more like "Oh, cool, I do that too, and you aren't so special or different - just another human being with a way more visible job/profession than mine" I remember when I was a kid, and living in Orange County, CA, and going to this restaurant in Newport Beach called "The Rueben E. Lee" - which was an old-fashioned paddlewheel boat, turned into a themed restaurant. My parents loved the ambience of the place, but my mother secretly loved to go because it was a regular hangout for John Wayne. We ran into him and his family several times - so much so, that my parents were on a first name basis with John and Pilar Wayne. After becoming "comfortable" in each others presence, my mother quickly lost her star-struck behavior, and realized that these people - while famous - had their own heartaches, pain, happiness, etc. just like everyone has, and that fame doesn't necessarily bring true, lasting happiness.
It's the low-lifes and leeches of "fame" that irk me to no end. People like Parisite Hilton or Lindsanity Lohan - that make a regular practice of notifying the press/paparazzi of their every move - just for a cheesy photo-op. (Translation: yet another pathetic attempt at relevancy)
