I wonder if there's a way to know how many apart the royal family slept or worked in the palace at night?
does anyone know?

I can tell that there were at least one cossack guard in the corridor and another at the entrance to the corridor for the private apartments for the IF, upstairs and down.  The baker worked overnight so that the breads and buns, rolls and pastries were ready before the Emperor arose. Laundry would have been done for the clothes from that day.  Cooks, maids, servants, valets would be there very early so that everything would be ready the moment the IF arose from bed.  There were probably at least perhaps 20 or so in staff working during the night hours, with several dozen more starting work well before dawn.

Yes.  There is a detailed floorplan of the AP around here somewhere. Have a look for it.

This should be read in a book Vsevolod Yakovaleva "Protecting the royal residence" in 1926.

Robert, I have this book!! It is in Russian. There are all security posts in the palace (in the basement, in the corridor) and all the security posts in the parks. The same author later wrote two books about the palace in 1927 and in 1928.
Now I will write neskolsko lines from the letter of the Empress  in Mogilev: "Nobody lives in this half. But I'm not afraid ..."

Thank you again, Lilanna. I was afraid of of that.  Would love to read a translation though. I am sure I could acquire  the volumes through a Russian friend, but as I do not read Russian very well, it would be useless.

I'm not exactly sure where this question should go, but this is the best fitting place I could find. If Nicholas want to discuss matters involving Palace security, who would he have talked to? Voyekov? Spiridovich? Who? Where were their offices located?
