Interesting how she whent from plants to people so quickly. She must have an active mind.

That's a letter of a child. Nothing special for a such age, children write what they think and see just at the moment.

Yes, very true. Anybody who has marked or just read some school children's essays knows these abrupt leaps of thought very well. And they don't even write "And by the way....". That's why they must be taught "text binding" or whatever it is called in English.

BTW (oh, I'm sooo grown-up) one can interpret this nonsensical little message in a rather tragic way considering her future: She was pretty like the roses, married a handsome prince and embarked upon a rosy imperial existence, but the thin, fragile roses of romance won't feed your (spiritual) hunger..... Heavy, dirty, grim beets, that's what's (spiritual) nourishment.

Now who is going to adopt this as their I♥EllaVonHessen4Ever signature line: Es giebt weiße und rothe Rüben. Rüben sind anders wie Rosen, Rosen kann man nicht essen. ? -:)

Having read all the letters she wrote to her father I must say that she was neither very eloquent nor a grammar buff...
Her elder sister writes far (!) more interestingly - and with correct orthography

Of course VMH was a great chatter-box and sometime even her husband had trouble shutting her up...Ella was more spiritual and later became more religious.

But this has nothing to do with your style o writing.
Those letters contain everything but spiritual matters :)

You mean VMH right ? She was very grounded in common sense and had a wicked sense of humour.

From a letter to an old friend (>>Found it here:

I have been reading the Bible a good deal lately, and if we believe in the sublime sacrifice of God the Father in sending His Son to die and rise again for us, we shall feel the Holy Spirit lighting our way, and our joy will become eternal, even if our poor human hearts and earthly minds pass through moments which seem terrible.

Amazing colored fotos  by the most wonderful Yelena Aleksandrovna. Endless thank you very much!
