Thanks for everyone's ideas and input. Yes, it does look like an improvised translation. I am also sure, that at some stage either Anastasia or the GDs had a pet dog called shvibzig. I wonder if the dog got the name first or Anastasia did...when did Anastasia start being called shvibzig? I can't remeber which book I read about the dog shvibzig, but it may have been Lifelong Passion. I think it dies and she (Anastasia) was distraught about its death.

I believe there were two dogs called Shvybzik. One died in 1915, but I don't remember if that was the first or the second of them. Holly would know. Olga Nikolaevna's 1913 diary refers to Anastasia as "Shvybs," so she had the nickname by then at least.
