I haven't read that before and I'm not totally sure if it is true... I remeber to read that when FrancescoII asked for Marie's hand for marrying her, the young Marie didn't have her mestruation but Duchess Ludovika didn't want to let this oportunity of arranging a good marriage for her daughter and while she received education for become a good queen, she also received a disgusting threatment for having her menstruation that was to takie baths with nearly boling water (that hurted her skin) and also  leeches (that was quite common in the past)
Was it true? In this case poor Marie :-S

I read that in two little bios about Maria, too. I think it´s true. Ludovika AND Max were selfish and sent their daughter to a country without future. And they knew it.
The current opinion Duke Max was so liberal it´s so not true.

I think Max was not that into their daughters lives...He just pops in and have fun with them and leaves the dirty work to Ludovika.

Lovely photo! Haven't seen it before XD
Why wasn't Duke Maximilian liberal? I think that compared with the most common point of view of other persons of the royalty of his time he would be considered more liberal than them. And I think that Max and Ludovika weren't the only ones who wanted that their daughters could marry a wealthy and important husband

Ludovika was the one who pushes them but Max did not object.

Love that photo of Marie. She was middle-aged in the photo. Not too much of them exist.

Well, the one who decided about their children was Ludovika, in the case of Marie I neither know what Duke Max thought about the proposal of Francesco II, or in the case of any of his other daughters

As far as I know Archduchess Marie Caroline, Rainer's wife, was the one who made the connection between Marie and Francesco. Her sister Maria Theresia was Francesco's stepmother. That's why Ludovica and Marie Caroline got together and tried to win Francesco (and the crown) for Marie.

Marie Caroline was also the one who was responsible for Archduke Carl Ludwig's wedding to Princess Maria Annunziata of the Two Sicilies.

Und kehr' ins Feenreich nach Haus -
Nichts soll mich wieder bringen.

As always i posted the larger cversion and the forum automatically resizes it to not deform the page. You can have the larger version clicking the right button of your mouse and choosing "copy URL of the image" or something like that aqnd then paste it in another tab or window. If you have google Chrome or Mozilla you can choose "Open image in other window" or "another Tab" )

here is it

Does anyone know this portrait of Marie and knows where it is currently? It was created by Hanns Brunner. I had never seen it before.
