it's quite interesting to see it! I haven't seen none of a lady riding her horse in this position and wearing amazon dress!! (I'm thinking in Sissi, empress Eugenie, etc.) I think that it was unusual

She was very sad and after that the couple left Rome.

I read that they were very excited about her pregnancy, but lost the interest about the child (like a pet?). The nanny was incompetent.
Was it pneumonia?

Yes. But I don't think she lost interest in the child, she just gave up one child and desperately wants to have one to raise on her own. It was a huge blow to her...

I looked at the books I have and Clara Tschudis book about Maria on archive.org
But the infos about her are superficial.

The best are in the Italian books, I got some stuff translated. The Clara book was the only one in English on Maria Sofia. Harold Acton's "The Last Bourbons of Naples" was another good source.

You mentioned before that the couple was excited with Marie's pregnancy but when the baby was born they lost all their interest on her... this info is totally unknown for me but I think that perhaps this is possible. I believe that perhaps they felt disappointed when they saw that they had a girl instead of a boy who could be the heir.
