Alexei's relics
« on: July 12, 2010, 06:11:45 PM »
There's probably already a thread on this or it belongs somewhere else, but I wanted to find pictures of the Tsarevich's relics. Also I heard that Nagorny was killed because the Bolsheviks had seized Alexei's relics. Is this true? Are there any photos of the Heir's relics?

Here's from a thread called "Has anyone ever built a monument to Nagorny?"
He was also a loyal friend. Gilliard wrote this about seeing Nagorny on the way to his execution. He could have given away the presence of his friends and gotten them captured, even by just waving at them, but he made sure not to acknowledge them and spare them from the Bolsheviks, even though he saw them.

One day when I was passing Ipatiev's house, accompanied by Dr. Derevenko and Mr. Gibbes, we saw two carriages drawn up and surrounded by a large number of Red Guards, What was our horror at recognizing in the first Sedniev (the valet-de-chambre of the Grand-Duchesses) sitting between two guards. Nagorny was going to the second carriage. He was just setting foot on the step with his hand on the side of the carriage when, raising his head, he saw us all there standing motionless a few yards from him. For a few seconds he looked fixedly at us, then, without a single gesture that might have betrayed us, he took his seat. The carriages were driven off, and we saw them turn in the direction of the prison.

These two good fellows were shot shortly afterwards; their sole crime had been their inability to hide their indignation on seeing the Bolshevik commissaries seize the little gold chain from which the holy images hung over the sick bed of Aleksey Nicolaievich.

Relics? I'm not sure what you mean.

The story about Nagorny being removed from the Ipatiev House because he protested when one of the guards tried to steal a gold cross/gold chain/pair of boots from Aleksei is almost certainly a myth. More info here: Nagorny And The Gold Chain?

I think that Orthodox Faith calls "relics" to the parts taken of the corpse of a Saint. For example a nail, a finger, a little of Saint's hair. I guess it could be some parts of a Saint's clothes...Am I wrong?

You are not wrong, RA.  It is much the same as  RC  venerating such relics.  The main difference would be the veneration of icons, especially  those considered  "miracle working". The RC do not pay as much attention to those. That issue is a long and complicated story.

Was Derevenko a doctor? I didn't know! (Forgive my ignorance)

Oh there's two Derenvenkos in the IF's life, Dr. Derenveko, father of Koyla, and Derenveko the sailor. Don't worry, I mix them up too!

Yes. You are right. Thanks! Indeed the RC Church doesn't believe in the icons as "miracle working", but we - I write "we" since I'm a Roman Catholic - do believe in the image as "miracle workers". Not all the images are, but someones could be. I know it sounds confusing. I think there are lots of differences between the two religions, but we are a lot of things in common too.

That's so cool that you're an RC! I'm Protestant, but I love how APF connects different religions and races!

Yes! I know what you mean. I'm a RC, my brother is a Lutheran with all his family, and one of my first friends is an Orthodox. All of us likes the Imperial Family as well. And do you want a little secret in addition? : I have a little Icon of the IF close to my bed, in the little table where I put my books to read at night!  ;D
