You're very welcome. I don't know the original source, but it is said that they didn't take the clothes of Aleksei. He remained to be in his uniform and supposedly in that sailor shirt under. Yurovsky's testimonies are sometimes confusing.
Yeah, I think he was in his Soldier's uniform and had that under too. Thank you Nena!

Nena, was there any mention as to how that piece of clothing remained intact after all this time? Just curious. Thanks :)

"Said to have been found", that sounds very enigmatic. I've always had a problem with this item from day one, as it's something which should not be at this location. However if it is the real deal, one thing it achieves is to blow the Yurovsky note clean out of the water, (all clothes destroyed at 4 brothers etc). Therefore we have a problem what do we choose, shirt or note, we can't have them both.

I remember reading that Alexei was left in only that undershirt out a sense of "respect". I don't recall hearing he'd been burned and buried fully clothed though.

Since Alexei took his "Medicine" maybe they saw the jewels, took off everything but his undershirt because on them. I hope it was out of respect, though.

Please recognize that given the morally reprehensible nature of this crime, it is nonsensical for anyone to have suggested that one (or more) of the bolsheviks supposedly demonstrated some kind of belated "respect" for their young murdered victim.

I'm more than aware of the irony and impossibility of that word in association with the murders.

Could you please provide a reference rather than simply posting "I remember reading".

Thanks in advance.

It was read by myself on a thread much like this one, about two years ago, where the individual failed to provide any reference for their source, much like myself. I beg forgiveness for so callously stringing along unreferenced and maliciously misguided information, it's a crime repeated often enough here.

Discovered things:

1) 44 fragments of bones

2) 7 teeth

3) 3 rifle bullets

4) A piece of clothing (Most likely part of a shirt that is believed to have been worn by Alexei when he was killed)

and -- coal, metal fasteners and destroyed parts of ceramic (that match with plates found in 1991 that contained sulfuric acid used for destroying the corpses) .

Russian archaeologist Sergei Pogorelov is also mentioned, I read that he took part in examining the new found bodies in 2007. Yes, I really can't find the source that Alexei was/wasn't completely burn/buried with or without clothes. I will have to search a bit. I only can remember as Keegan, that he wasn't completely unworn, so the most likely a part of his sailor suit remained to be buried with him. We also should know that photographing of those remains wasn't allowed.

No mention. The undershirt seems to be burned, but I can't claim.

Alexei's shirt was left on him simply because it was obvious the he was carrying no jewels once they got his pants off. The shirt remaining on him is mentioned in one of the accounts (not Yurovsky) of the murders and subsequent Keystone Cops routine of the burial, burning, acid, etc. The reference specifically is elsewhere in the Forum, do a search, I posted it several years back when the fragment was first found. I'm not at home right now, so I don't have the cite, but I remember it is from one of the other accounts in "Last Act of a Tragedy".

There  very well be  forensic photographs, but not media [for general realease].  The latter could be considered a desecrate of the body.

I take your point Robert, but I think a few in-situ photographs of the remains & artefacts are just what we need, and are we not all past the stage of being squeamish. As the years go by I feel this item has been gradually pushed more & more into the background making it less relevant. Even the +1 report does not refer to the shirt, and I don't recall the ROC clamouring to get their hands on it either. For don't forget, if this is genuine it may be considered a holy relic. I wonder where it is now, but does anyone really care.

Carisbrooke,  I see your points as well. However, I doubt any remains would be considered "Holy Relics", as they are not canonised saints.  The ROC has said they "died in a Christlike Manner", that is; submissive to their fate. They are worthy of emulation, but not quite veneration.
But, as you pointed out- "who cares?"

Perhaps my "who cares" remark was made in a very different way to yours. I feel that someone really should care. Is it any wonder that the church have difficulty recognizing the 2007 remains with all this confusion. We are now 3 years down the line & we still know zip about this find. In some ways I am at one with the ROC in this matter. My opinion is that until the archaeological results are published regarding the whole discovery, this shirt has all the provenance of being found on the back seat of a London bus.
