In the second last pic, Alexandra's side profile looks a little like the Queen.

Did Marina ever have a gentleman friend after the death of George?

Only Georgie's theater gay friends like Noel Coward & Danny Kayle. Marina had only one serious beau, that was the widower King Olav of Norway. He proposed marriage but he turned him down. She had hoped that Alexandra would marry Crown Prince Herald. But that did not happen.

No. It was true. Olav also proposed to the Queen Mother who also turned him down.

I think the first one was taken in the Velesquez Room in the Prado Museum. The famous Ladies-in-Waiting painting was in the background.

I wonder where the second photo was taken.

Few of today's royals are really dreaming because many of them behave like "people". Personally, the marriages of kings and princes with commoners don't make me dream because often result in separations or divorces. One of the last true royal weddings to me that dreaming is the Duke of Aosta with Princess Olga of Greece.

I have to say that I think in today's climate of celebrity frenzied idolatry Royalty have an incredibly difficult position to maintain, being expected to be perfect paragons whilst withstanding the Papz frenzy on a daily basis and still maintaining their dignity and poise! In the 1930s Royals got away with far more in private because the press was far more amenable. The case of Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson was successfully kept out of the papers in the UK for months prior to the abdication crisis! Times have changed and Royalty is no longer protected as it once was, by press discretion and a degree of respect! Unlike other celebrities today, Royals born into the Purple really do have to withstand scrutiny and actually justify their privileged positions today, rather than merely look the part based on birth right! As to the marriage of the Duke of Aosta and Princess Olga of Greece, it made the whole affair a little tawdry and declasse that the bride was pregnant at the time of the nuptials IMHO!

Well...At least both partners are royal. That would fit the bill that even old guards like Miechen or Augusta of Mecklenburg-Strelitz would approve. In fact Queen Mary was very happy that George chose someone "in the family", she would have been more glad had David (Duke of Windsor) napped one of Marina's sisters. Baby Bee (Infanta Beatrice of Borbon-Orleans) was present when Olga & Elisabeth (Wooley) of Greece was presented at court. Sadly nothing happened. I tend to think actually it is that they don't really want to go off and search for wives of approciate status. There are many royal cousins (especially from Prince Philip's side) to chose from (Baden, Hohenlohe-Langenburgs, Hesse...etc). IInstead they have to find someone like "Fergie"...I have no words.

Absolute Rubbush about old guards such as Miechen and Augusta of Mecklenburg Strelitz approving! How can one make such an assumption when Olga was deemed unequal to her father's lineage from birth!???? Have you forgotten that Princess Olga of Greece was never entitled to bear the title of HRH at birth, as she born of an unequal marriage!? Heaven forbid we forget that even today, Prince Michael of Greece's daughters were born out of an unequal marriage....they were products of the recent 'bending' of rules, but were never totally equal to others born of so called or acceptably equal 'Royal' marriages where they qualified to be HRHs! How sad it is that this issue be brought up here as no doubt it will be scotched as 'Off topic'! All I have to say is check your facts Eric before you start going on about being 'Royal'......!
