I think she adored - over-adored almost - both sons but was maybe more protective of Eddy because he wasn't as self-sufficient as George was and probably enjoyed her company more.  Just my idea anyway.  Her correspondence demonstrates she was extremely close to both boys.

Yes. Alix felt her elder son needed her more. But she was a pocessive mother anyway.  :)

I think they took many poses in every session and sold them off. In the old days, Kate & Wills would have to produce many poses from one photo session than just deliever two photos to the press...

Thanks for posting the postcard. It's very interresting to see them on a postcard from Vienna.

The words on the postcard "Gruß aus Wien" mean "greetings from Vienna".The right pictures shows Stephansdom, the biggest church in Vienna. On the picture in the middle you find the Rotunde, a buildung that was errected for Vienna World Fair of 1873. Afterwords it was used for fairs, shows and as concert-hall. Sadly it burned down in 1937.

There's a fuller version of it with the other children. I don't know if the photographer of the period 'photoshopped' them out (note the background or lack thereof) or if this was a separate pose with just Maud. I don't have the photo of the full family in front of me, but I seem to recall her in just about the same position in that one.
