Great pic Sveta, it is new to me too. There is another cdv from this sitting of just Louise and two of the girls (or perhaps all three I am having trouble picturing it right now.) You must tell us were this wonderful one came from.  ;D

I just remembered the cdv is of the three girls, Louise is not in it. I am pretty sure it is from this sitting.

It's nice to see this picture in full. On the Royal Family dvd, they showed a close up of Waldemar from this photo, but not his mother and sisters! Thank you Svatebel!  :D

Yes--this is a great photo! Thank you for posting it, Svetabel.

I've read two accounts of the last minutes of King Christian's life. In one story, Dagmar comes into his room and sees that he's looking very worn out. He tells her he isn't, and to proove it, he dances with her around the room. He stumbles, and a little while later he dies. In the other story (which I somehow believe to be more truthful) after dinner, Christian goes to his room, and when Dagmar comes in to check on him, she finds he has died peacefully, in his sleep.

The second story is the true one.
The king was in good shape until his death. At christmas time 1904, he visited Thyra in Gmunden. Her mother in-law, Queen Marie got some nice earrings and the children said she looked as going to a ball. The Queen said she was to old to dance, but Christian then jumped up and swong her around in a valse, until she begged for her life.

What a funny story! I can just see it in my head!  :D It's interesting how anecdotes like that get mixed up. (I had read about Christian dancing with Thyra right before he died, in Theo Aronson's 'A Family of Kings.') Thank you for setting the record straight!

Dagmar looks so young and bright in that pic and Alix looks so old and worn out, I think. It is lovely Sveta. I missed it on ebay, I have never seen it. Thanks.

Sad picture. I believe it was taken just after Alexander III's untimely death.

I don't know--could it be later than that? They both look older than if it was 1894. Perhaps after Alexandra was widowed? The photo was shown once in an article on Hvidore--that's where it was taken. Wasn't Hvidore bought much later than '94? Whatever the date--it's a great photo. Both women are still lovely but there is a sparkle missing that was evident in the joint photos they did earlier in life where they'd wear their matching outfits. The various tragedies in their lives were becoming evident on their faces.

May be you are correct and it was not 1894. Sometimes very hard to recognize becouse of the retouche! ;) Both women looks old though enameled and retouched. I considered 1894 as Dagmar looks very sad not as Alexandra.
Anyway thank you for clarification! :)I definitely forgot what year Hvidore had been bought by 2 sisters  ::)

I had thought that when I was writing--that's why the location is a good clue.  :)

Thank you for posting that picture, Svetabel. I hadnt seen it before...
Hvidøre was bought in 1906, just after the death of CIX. So it could be taken after his death, or as Ella said after the death of EVII.
