I don't think MF knew--things were so chaotic. I believe the news must've come out much later--perhaps even after her death? I'm not quite sure on the timeline. It's quite possible it was published at the time but on the other hand might have seen so inconsequential at the time that it went unnoticed.

I believe at that time one could not travel by train in those areas without Germany's knowledge and permission...I mean they were running  things in the area between Germany and Russia at that time...One would not have to know the details to know Lenin got to capital  with Germany's  help. Also if I remember correctly Alix is quoted in captivity   as saying Willy would regret sending Lenin...that his throne would fall as well because of it. If AF knew of it in captivity with the poor flow of news, then everyone would . MF considered herself Dowager Empresses of Imperial Russia....and it's exactly because of Russia's defeat at German hands during this  time that would cause her to refuse being gracious to them....her country was at their feet, but at least that was denied them . They set it up the refusal themsleves by asking her! lol! Had they not noticed what she went though thanks to them both in Denmark and Russia ? What had they expected? This is like Napoleon wondering why no one stopped to surrender  to him at Moscow . When you have  taken everything else, of course you are refused what you ask for. Then at least even if one was conquered, one did not surrender .

I don't think there could have been trains running directly between Germany and Russia at this time. Lenin's train went through Germany to Denmark, and the revolutionaries then travelled the rest of the way through Sweden and Finland.

Ann, of course!Thank you . I guess that is one of the reasons it was sealed

There is a lot of detail in this book, but I found it a bit dull.I thought the Grand Duchesses book put out by Eurohistory a few years ago was more interesting.Then again, that was separate biographies of the Gds and this was a book where the stories of the Russian Imperial women were woven together.
