From what I've read--and admittedly it's been picked up here and there--it was an arranged (by Aunt Swan) marriage and never once Louise desired. She wasn't happy living in Germany and missed her family dreadfully. She seems to have been extremely shy and perhaps suffered from depression. This may have pushed her 'over' so to speak. Cause of death was put out as illness but the rumor was drowning herself in the lake. I haven't read of any ill-treatment by her husband but can't say for sure. She did leave small children.

That sounds terribly tragic, particularly with her having small children....

Did Martha actually live to become Queen of Norway?  She was Crown Princess during World War II, spent much time in the United States and was a very close friend of President Roosevelt.  She lived at the White House for some time and visited Hyde Park.

FYI:  Pss Louise and her husband Prince Friedrich are buried in the Cemetery of the White Cross in Nachod which is now in the Cech republic in Bohemia. Ratiboritz is near there. :)

Once again lovely photo svetabel. Thanks for posting.
I think the child is her eldest, Princess Marie-Louise. I also think it is one of several taken in Denmark around the time of Queen Louise's death in 1899.

Wow, I've never seen that one before! Doesn't she look just like her mother, Aunt Swan? I think I have a postcard from this day, with the whole family standing on some steps. I recognize the outfit that Louise is wearing.

Yes there were several photos taken of the whole family on the stairs on this day. THere is one that someone posted with Louise in it on a thread in the Imperial family board called "Identify this picture", or somthing like that. You can see Louise and her two eldest children in that photo.

Does Anyone have any info on Princess Thyra, daughter of Frederik VIII? I know she did not marry because she was a handmaiden but did she have any relations with men? Does anyone have any baby pictures of her?

Why are you so concerned with her relations with men?  You seem to have a fixation about unmarried princesses and men?  A Handmaid?  She may not have married for several reasons - but don't assume that every unmarried princess from that time period had sexual relations.

Wow--I just got the impression she meant that she was a handmaiden to her mother (ala Toria, Olga, Beatrice, etc). Also I got the impression 'relations' could refer to any romances she may have had and whether they were prevented or if she never had the chance to form an attachment to anyone.

Art's magazine did a feature on Thrya, Dagmar and Gustav (the youngest children) and their stifling existence at the mother's side.

Sorry,  but you keep asking if these princesses have had sex with men ... I find it strange, actually, to ask such things.

It's okay Marlene!! I know this might sound weird and sometimes I ask myself why do I keep feeling this way but I find it interesting to search for things like that!
