Poetry for the Tudors
« on: October 30, 2010, 12:11:58 PM »
Have any of you written poetry for the Tudors? Share it here!  :)

Here is a poem I wrote for/about Katherine Howard:

To Katherine Howard:
You were so young, and pretty, too,
captivating the attentions of many,
the coquette and yet devout
you went along your route,
carefree and flirtatious,
until you were 'set to rights'.
still, under the eye of your grandmother,
you did not fail to catch
the eye of the king.
your heart was elsewhere, Culpepper his name,
but you wanted fame,
and so slept with the king.
then you were queen--all you wanted was at your feet.
wealth and pretty gowns,
you were called by him,
"Rose without a thorn.
But when a child was not born,
you began to gain disfavor in the eyes of Henry Eighth.
A hapless and naive victim, were you, to the ever-changing desires of the man so famous...
for beheading one of his four wives...
and now you have the same fate.
a few looks, a note or so, and then a night,
it was just because you loved him so!
And now, both Tom and ye,
sentenced to the block, beheaded to be.
Hear, now then! The cry of the condemned!
Be repentant, Henry VIII!

I hope you like it!  :)
P.S. I thought I saw a thread like this somewhere, but I searched and couldn't find it.
When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, "I used everything You gave me". --Erma Bombeck

Thank you.  :)
One for Anne Boleyn (sp?):
Exotic looks, a ravishing face,
so different from other girls of your race.
What more could be wanted,
to be mistress of the king?
But oh no, you wanted more.
Queen..Queen Anne! The phrase music to your ears...
but the last card must be played,
and played well.
And yet there is tell,
of witchery...rumors...rumors,
As you rejoyce in your queenship..
Be careful--do not trip,
One thing done wrong could cost you your life.
Oh, the strife, of being accused! And knowing that tomorrow you will die...
