Hello Olga ! My Yusupov geneology isn't that great either ! I think, though I'm not sure that these paintings are of Zinaida Nikolaevna's mother Countess Tatiana Ribeaupierre (before marrige) but I'm not sure. Any ideas ?

Yes, that is Princess Tatiana Alexandrovna Yusupova (1828-79), nee Ribeaupierre. Here is one more portrait of her in 1875.

Details of the portrait,Please ...i.e.location,artist?. I wonder if that is the Polar Star or the Sultan of Morrocco that is the centre peice of the tiara. The earrings are probably the stupendous ones that originally belonged to Marie Antoinette and are now in the Smithsonian in Washington DC.Despite ill health the Princess still seems to have been a fine looking woman in her later years.

The portrait of Tatiana is probably of 1875 year, painted by Fauque. The location is The State Museum of The History of Saint-Petersbourg (the Rumyantsev mansion on English Embankment,44).

Prince Nikolai Borisovich Yusupov (October 12, 1827, Moscow - July 31, 1891, Baden Baden), Marshal of the Imperial Court.
Painting by Christina Robertson (1841) now in The Hermitage St. Petersburg.

Oh he does look like Zenaida and Felix! I was wondering if it was the Yussoupov line or the other side the good looks came from, it was him! Thanks for posting these!

You know what if you look back at the Yussupov line, you can see that the men in family had an eye for beauty. Zenaida's mother was a beauty as was her grandmother.

Zenaida's grandmother, Zenaida Yussupova ( Does anyone know if Zenaida was named after her paternal grandmother, and her sister named after thier mother? Just a random question.)

I think it was only natural that such a line of beauty would eventually produce the lovely Zenaida and handsome Felix.

Zenaida Nikolayevna was named after her grandmother Princess Zenaida Ivanovna. As for Tatiana Nikolayevna she could be named after her mother or after great-grandmother Tatiana Vasilievna Yusupova.

Great-grandmother of princess Zenaida and her fathers grandmother Tatiana Vasilievna von Engelhardt (January 1, 1769-May 23, 1841), one of Prince Potemkin's nieces painted by Christina Robertson (now in The Hermitage St. Petersburg).

Princess Tatiana was grandmother to BOTH Zenaida's parents. Z's mother was her grandaughter through her daughter Catherine by her marriage to General Michael Potemkin...by her second marriage to Prince Nicholas Youssoupoff she was the grandmother of Zenaida's father...ANOTHER Prince Nicholas.

Yes, that's why the wedding ceremony of Nikolay Borisovitch and Tatiana Alexandrovna in 1856 was somewhat secret - only closest friends and relatives. Nikolay and Tatiana were cousins and their marriage was out of rules of the Russian Orthodox church. In 1858 someone denounced the Yusupovs to the Synod but the investigation was interrupted by Alexander II who ordered to leave the couple without separating and stop the trial...
