I was actually admiring her makeup, I don't think it was ''too much'' not at all. Marie took extra time to look good always, even in her later years of life. And with her great vitality, her beautiful face always looked lovely and kept the same youthful appearance (except maybe for the 1937-1938 years), in spite of years crowded with strenuous activity.
I believe she had a beautiful skin, unlined, firm, fresh, with lovely natural color. (This is how I imagine she was from her photographs & paintings and from other person's and her own descriptions of herself). A skin which spoke for itself of the wise care Marie had always given it. She kept her skin creams for constant use on her dressing table and she was quoted saying it gave her daily greater satisfaction.
