I had no idea Queen Fabiola was of such noble lineage, though I did suspect the 'Aragon' in her name meant something . . .

But as you can see, her royal Aragonese ancestry is not via those ancestors called De Aragón, which could be a surname indicating origin just like Flemming, Beyer, Scott, Von der Lippe etc.

Indeed, her earliest ancestor with that name I could find, Juan de Aragón y Pérez, who lived ca. 1700, lived in the northeastern part of Castile not far from the Aragonese border. So it makes very much sense that he or an immediate ancestor was known as "John from Aragon".

It will be a full 20 years tomorrow since HM King Baudouin passed away at his summer residence,Villa Astrida in Motril, Spain. I can still remember it clearly as his death was unexpected...although he had previously undergone heart surgery, at 62 years of age he was not very old. I always had great respect for King Baudouin and Queen Fabiola. May he rest in peace.

86 years old, she lived a full life and can finally be reunited with her husband after over 20 years apart.

RIP Queen Fabiola. She outlived her husband King Baudouin by over 21 years. A sad day indeed.
