Buried under avalanche: Prince Johann Friso and Mabel of Oranien-Nassau
« Reply #6 on: February 17, 2012, 09:03:03 AM »
Prince Friso was buried under an avalanche while on wintersport holidays with the RF in Austria today.
The Prince was recessitated ( is that the right word,sorry...scared the bejesus out of me)...and is now
in a critical condition in hospital in Innsbruck. My goodness,no,let him recover!.

The Vorarlberg region is isolated due heavy snow and Lech, venue of the annual winter holidays,in perticular.
They were not on the official piste but this one WAS cleared for use too according to the mayor of Lech am Arlberg.

Not really common for me to ask you to keep the Dutch RF,and in perticular the Prince Friso,in your thoughts and prayers.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-17077390

Other members of the group of four the Prince was skiing with were not hurt...Thank God.
There will be a press conference at 17.00PM local time on the condition of Friso by the Mayor of Lech and the Government Information Service.
The avalange was 30 meter wide and 40 meters long, the Prince was buried for 20 minutes.

The Prince is in the shock-room at the hospital in Innsbruck at present.
HM is at the side of her son in the University hospital of Innsbruck.

Thank you for the update Lucien.   Let's hope and pray for his full recovery.

Yes,but he is fighting for his life at present.

The PM has been in contact with Her Majesty and she and Princess Mabel are at Prince Friso's side.
He has a fractured skull and is in coma, probably sedated due to his condition. It is difficult to
say untill after a few days on his overall condition. The news came in hard with everybody here
gave a huge outpoor of symphaty towards the Prince and Princess Mabel and HM herself. The PM
assured HM that we here feel deeply with Her and Her Family.

At present the Prince of Orange and his family as well as TRH Prince Constantijn and Princess Laurentien
and their children are on their way by government aircraft KBX to Innsbruck at this moment.

The photo-shoot of the RF that was scheduled due to the winter holiday is now cancelled.

In critical condition after avalange: HRH Prince Johann Friso
« Reply #10 on: February 17, 2012, 05:21:30 PM »

No more news except that the Princes brothers and their families landed in Sankt Gallen,Switserland earlyer this evening and were flown from there to Lech and Innsbruck.Princes Willem-Alexander and Constantijn are with their brother now,as are HRH Princess Mabel and Her Majesty.

It will take a few days to have a full diagnosis and the situation of Prince Friso has not changed other then critical and fighting for his life.
Pray he pulls through.

Condition remains critical: Prince Johann Friso
« Reply #12 on: February 18, 2012, 02:02:03 AM »
The website of the Royal House:

http://www.koninklijkhuis.nl/

No new bulletins this morning on the condition of Prince Friso as already was said yesterday and it will take a few more days to complete the diagnosis. His condition has not changed overnight.

What did happen,a "detail" but if confirmed a happy one is that the Prince probably does not suffer from a fractured skull nor other injuries except for being without oxygen for 20 minutes, which on itself is serious enough, very much so.

One of Friso's doctors at the Innsbruck University Hospital,Claudius Thomé,spoke with dutch lady Jannetje Koelewijn who happened to be in the hospital at the time the Prince was taken in and who's husband is a neuro-surgeon there, and Thomé told them that,no other injuries but the lack of oxygen and it is not at all clear if,and if yes, what damage that did.Mrs.Koelewijn also happens to be an editor with dutch quality paper NRC...

The resuscitation took quite a while and when found Friso's temperature was down to 32 celsius which in this case might be a positive element as the body needs less oxygen.

Late last night Friso's brothers,The Crown Prince Willem-Alexander and Princess Máxima,Prince Constantijn and Princess Laurentien and their families arrived at the hotel in Lech where HM already stays since last saturday,a week ago.

The Dutch NOS TV website keeps a constant update on Friso and the Royal Family. It also mentions HM Queen Noor of Jordan has send a message to Princess Mabel;" I think of you and pray for your whole family ".The Hashemite House of Jordan and the Dutch Royal Family are very close and dear friends. Also HM King Harald of Norway has send a message, the King is the Godfather of Prince Friso.

Please keep the Prince and Princess,HM and the entire Dutch RF in your thoughts and prayers.

Princess Mabel btw,is the CEO of The Elders,a group formed by Nelson Mandela consisting of ,ao,Jimmy Carter, former Irish president Mary McAleese, former Norwegian PM Gro Bruntland,Desmond Tutu who's aim it is to solve crisis in the Third World.Prince Friso, the most intellectual of the three brothers and the wizz kid of the family is the financial director of Urenco in the UK as well as he is involved in media and an adviser to the very successfull european low budget airline Wizz-Air .The Prince,2nd son of HM Queen Beatrix, studied Economics as well as Air & Space Sciences and did so simultaniously and Cum Laude. As he once said himself: " I dreaded sitting on a side bench and just waiting there,I want to do my own bit",and he did.He was a Senior with Goldman Sachs in London but left that post years ago.The couple lives in London from before their marriage in 2004,they love to be anonymous except for Queensday when they too attend the celebrations with the rest of the Family.Friso is not in line to the Throne as he didn't ask the governments permission to marry. Not that he's bothered. Both the Prince and Princess have always had their own jobs and earned their own accordingly.Other then Her Majesty,The Heir to the Throne and his/her spouse no-one in the Dutch RF gets an apanage,no-one,we don't do free-loaders and the RF themselves wouldn't have it any other way either.Prince Friso and Princess Mabel have two daughters,7 year old Countess Luana and 5 year old Countess Zaria. Just an update on the couple and their family.

« Reply #13 on: February 18, 2012, 10:58:02 AM »
There has been no change in the critical condition of the Prince. The latest communique issued was about two hours ago and held a request by the hospital to minimize the number of visitors for the time being.HM and Princess Mabel visited the Prince today for about two hours after which they returned to Lech. The Dutch PM Mark Rutte cancelled his wintersport holiday that was to start tomorrow due to the condition of the Prince.

The Royal House website issued two photographs today, one of the hospital in Innsbruck, the other of HM The Queen and Princess Mabel
grief written all over.Sóo sad to them this way, really,it is.

No change in the Princes situation. His wife,Princess Mabel, returned to the hospital last night along with Friso's
youngest brother Prince Constantijn and remained for an hour. The hospital has stressed that visits to Friso should
be limited to a minimum.

The image of a grieving Queen Beatrix and Princess Mabel has hit home hard here in The Netherlands and the outpoor
of love and affection towards them & Friso and the entire Royal Family is immense.HM and Princess Mabel give evidence,
once again, that love and loyalty are the very basics of life be that with or without a Crown, just a grieving mother and wife.
It is not beneath Her Majesty and the Princess to show that.
