I think it was the same brooch that Helen & Irene shared. Love to see the photo of this piece to see if it matched the Helen/Irene one in size and gem composition. Is there a link ?
www.andersonandgarland.com   lot 1988....the other greek associated items are earlier in the catalogue.

I think it is a bit different in composition from the one worn by Irene. It is possible that Queen Victoria was given this gift from Louis Philippe as a form of appreciation of giving their family a home. The use of fleurs-d-lys is a very common motif in the French Royal Family and many of them have brooches and tiaras made out of these is diamonds and pearls. I think QV gave Vicky this as part of her dowry and she in turn gave it to Sophie for her wedding. Evidently she did not gave too much to Sophie, as Vicky wrote to her daughter "I cannot spare any more jewels, you will have to wait until I am gone to get what I still have." Apart from her dower jewels, she did have part of the jewel collection of Queen Elise of Prussia. In retailation, Empress Augusta gave Vicky nothing.

Fleur de Lys ornaments were indeed very popular amongst many royal families associated with the Bourbons as well as aristocratic families.Diadems of a diamond band with (usually detachable) fleur de lys were owned by Crown Princess Stephanie,Marie Louise of Bulgaria and  even Sophia's sister Irene of Hesse.Princess Henry of Prussia. This particular jewel as worn by her grand daughter and heiress Barbara Duchess Christian Ludwig of Mecklenberg -Schwerin and the current Danish Queens wedding.

By Irene, you mean Sophie's sister-in-law ? Yes, although I do not know how she got that jewel as the fleur-de-lys motief is usual idenitify with the Catholic French monarchy or the Bourbon family. Queen Elizabeth II for example do not process any fleur-de-lys jewellery. Which is why I think QV got it as a gift from Louis Philippe of France.

Just to confirm since you wrote sister on the link above.  ;) I wonder if Helen inherited the wonderful diamond chokers (in diamond and pearls) that Queen Sophie used to wear on formal occations ?

Princess Helen with Michael, Queen Marie and Prince Nicolas of Rumania :

In fact, in English, is what is written " Rumania" or " Romania " ? I personally find more results in my research with the first spelling.

This one is kind of funny : Helena talking to his son who seems to be VERY bored listening to her xDDD. The occasion? The wedding of her brother Pavlos

On this occasion, the two sisters Helen and Irene are both the same dress, thus affirming their complicity. They remind me Alexandra and Dagmar of Denmark who were also very united, can not live without each other, and sometimes fun to dress alike.
