I´ve never seen the right upper one

Based on Ella's outfit, it might have been taken on the same occasion in 1907 when she was photographed with Dmitri and her sister Victoria. Is it Ilinskoe?

Right, Ilinskoe.

It is a breathtaking portrait Ally Kumari. It was posted in a German site a few weeks ago where it was a part of an exhibition at the Schlossmuseum in Darmstadt about the Darmstadt princesses who married into the Romanov family. There were also other portraits of Ella by Kaulbach as well as of Alix that weren't posted in full color or quality before. I hope someone here in the forum was able to get the book for the exhibition. There were lots of portraits there according to the website! :-)

Gem, do you have the link to the German site?  I'd like to check it out.

Found this image on one of the Romanov blogs I follow on Tumblr.

If this doesn't belong in the thread Casual Photos, I don't know what does.  Look at Alexandra's foot!  :-)

That portrait is so beautiful! It's interesting to hear that there are still paintings by Kaulbach that haven't been posted online.

Grand Duchess Elizaveta and Grand DUke Konstantin Konstantinovich, 1911

Dear Ally:

I was browsing through this thread and ran accross this picture you posted of GD Elizaveta Feodorvna with GD Konstantin Konstantinovich from 1911. I was wondering whether you know the identity of the man standing in the background between them. He looks like my Great Grandfather P.A. Basilevsky who was an aide de camp to GD Sergei and later became marshall of the nobility for Moscow. I have a lovely silver box which was a present from GD Elizaveta Feodorvna that was given to him for his service running her Sklad during WWI.

Here is his Wikipedia page:

I do not know the identity of the man, but you are right he looks strikingly similar to Basilevksy! I dare say it is him! And how wonderful for you to have such a link to history. And to have something that actually was given by the Grand Duchess... that is a real treasure indeed!
