I always loved the dress from that session, and her hair is lovely.

You can find at least the latter one in a 1905 copy of La Femina. Those usually start at $30--much cheaper and no watermarks or bends.

Today I ran across this photo on eBay. The seller has it posted as Alix! I wrote them and they answered   It's Alix. Yes, she  looks like Ella .
But  it's Ella imo

IMHO is Ella, no doubts.
Alix was thinner, or better more slender, i'd say; moreover, i've already seen this gown on Ella, but never on Alix; finally, her face is definitively Ella's, not Alix's; i'd post some photo to comparison, but i don't have time now (my parents in law are waiting for me for lunch  )
I'd say the have their own interests to say it's Alix: a photo of Alix's would attract more customers, 'cause she was in a certain way more famous; and those who aren't expert, and can't recognize them - they're not passionate as we are! - maybe just want to own an important photo... i hope i could explain myself ^^
But, in conclusion IMHO is Ella.

The question is not that difficult if one looks at the dress. That's 1880-1882 years fashion. Alix was a little girl then, that's all.

Hi Katenka,

It's possible that the seller just wants it to be Alexandra, as she would be better known to the population at large.
Not many people generally know who Elisabeth was, except us, and a very few others;  and at least more know Alexandra because she was an Empress and was murdered.

Just my guess!!

Well, it's possible that the user wants her to be Alix, even if we show all the proofs availables in the world to demonstrate she isn't.

But even if Ella was not an Empress, she was murdered too, like her sister, so she shares her part of tragic history too.

He just answered me...he said he thought it was alix but still he changed the name of the auction and FINALLY  tagged it as Ella *0* and even posted  the message i sent.
