Two great pictures of Queen Alexandra in mourning with her beloved grandson prince Olav of Norway, son of her daughter Maud and future king of Norway. In the first picture you can see Alexandre lovingly embracing her grandson just after his arriving at the trainstation in Copenhagen, and Olav apparently is trilled to see his grandmother. Look at Olav standing on his toes to watch his beloved grandmother in the face, isn't it a heart warming picture. And Olav's mother Queen Maud of Norway is getting out of the train with help of her husband King Haakon of Norway in the background. King Christian X of Denmark, a cousin towards Maud and brother of Haakon is greeting them and takes his hat of.
In the following picture Queen Alexandra in her mourning dress and little grandson Olav in his sailor suite pose in front of the camera (the close-up is a well known picture), probably a few minutes after the first picture was taken. Alexandra's sister Thyra, the Duchess of Cumberland is standing at the right and Olav's father (the man with his back towards the camera) is standing at the left, at least that's my suggestion.
I'm not shore which occasion is the reason fore this family-gathering. At first I thought it could be the funeral of Alexandra's father King Christian IX of Denmark in 1906 Because of the mourning Queen Alexandra is wearing, it is the same outfit as the picture I posted before of Alix and Minny at the Klampenborg trainstation in 1906. But Olav would have been three at that time and he is looking much older than that in the pictures above. So it must be fore the funeral of King Frederick VIII of Denmark, Alexandra's brother. Olav would have been nine by that time and that more likely to be the occasion than the 1906 funeral. And when I take a second look at the picture of Alexandra and Dagmar I posted before, I think that one is taken to in 1912 (and not 1906). So a little mistake, but I'm glad I have restored it. I really enjoy seeing pictures of the Glucksbourg family, their history is so intresting and a pleasure to study.
