Books on Iberian royalty
« on: September 06, 2008, 05:06:48 AM »
I've recently seen this book in The Hague for 44,90 euros. It's written in Spanish and published in 2007, so I like to know your comments on this book !!

Here you can have a look at some of the photos in the book:

It's about Spanish royalty from the 19th and 20th centuries.

There is this book of Malcolm Howe: The Braganza Story. But I couldn´t find it in the web. Maybe you have more luck:)

Here it is:

http://openlibrary.org/b/OL13158297M/The_Braganza_Story

If you are interested mainly in photos you woukld appreciate
"A Descendência de El-Rei D.João VI".

http://openlibrary.org/b/OL746082M/Descendência_d'El-Rei_Dom_João_VI

It traces the King's descendants up to the 1930/40.

And of course there are Eduardo Nobre's books "Família Real" and "Casa Real", and "Paixões Reais I and II" .

http://www.guardamor.com.pt/livro.php?id=149
http://www.guardamor.com.pt/livro.php?id=572

From Paula Lourenço, Ana Cristina Pereira and Joana Troni "Amantes dos Reis de Portugal" - (The Kings of Portugal Mistresses).
Traces the mistresses of the kings of Portugal from the very first D.Afonso Henriques to the last one D.Manuel II.

There is also this collection of all the kings of Portugal.
F.Instance http://www.guardamor.com.pt/livro.php?id=1317

And since last year we had the sad 100th anniversary of D.Carlos’ regicide, there were at least a dozen books on him.

http://www.guardamor.com.pt/livro.php?id=980

Unfortunately, apart from The Braganza Story, all the others are only in Portuguese...

You can check many more at this site
http://www.guardamor.com.pt/

Mind you that Guarda-Mor is slightly more expensive than most bookshops. I mentioned it because it is easier to find them all together.
Older books can be found at “Alfarrabistras”, the famous 2nd hand bookstores.

Replying to Zukunfsseele's question of 19 Junel.
A good book on the Braganza family of Portugal was published in the UK towards the end of July 2009. This is titled "The Madness of Queen Maria: The Remarkable Life of Maria I of Portugal" by Jenifer Roberts (ISBN: 978-0-9545589-1-8). It covers the periods of Joao V, Jose I, Maria I and Joao VI (c.1720 to 1834). It is available from www.amazon.co.uk or from www.bookdepository.co.uk which offers free worldwide postage. Enjoy!

There're a new fantastic biographie about King D. Carlos I, but that's in portuguese.

There're thousands of books about Bragança Dinasty, but all of them are in portuguese but they won't be translate in english.

yes maybe an english writer because these books aren't very sold so it's almost impossible to think to translate them and in Portugal these autors probabily don't know that their books could be some sucess if they translate them.

Do you want to know the name of the book about king Carlos I ?
