It looks like this photo was taken during the time the famous Felix Yussupov painting with his dog was made. I thought it was an interesting picture...

Arkhangelskoye had a friend and admirer after my own heart in the person of Serov, the artist who came to paint our portraits in 1904.

He was a delightful man. Of all the artists I have ever met in Russia or elsewhere, my memory of him is the most precious and vivid. His admiration for Arkhangelskoye, which revealed his acute sensibility, was the basis of our friendship. In an interval between sittings, we sometimes went into the park, sat down on a bench under the trees, and had long talks, His advanced ideas influenced the development of my mind considerably. I must add that in his opinion there would have been no cause for a Revolution if all rich people had been like my parents.

Glad you liked the picture.  I purchased a book in Canada, enclosed was a small obituary of Felix and a picture of him looking very old.  I will try to scan the picture in. My talents do not extend to computer skills.  Give a couple of hours and I should have it on.

Here is a scan of the obituary I found in a book recently purchased in Canada.  The Name of the Book is Rasputin, by, Prince Youssoupoff.  Book was first published in 1927 and later, 1934.

This is one of the photos i found on a russian website. In this photo he looks very feminine. I believe he must have had lot of makeup on.

He did wear makeup! He wanted to stay young. Those are nice pictures I haven't seen before. Can you tell us more about the book Rasputin? I have not seen it before.

     Like I said in earlier post, book was published in 1927.  It was translated from the Russian by Oswald Rayner, M. A. Barrister-At-Law.  The complete title is, " Rasputin, His Malignant Influnce and his Assassination.
    The book is somewhat formal in it's execution, not a lot of Felix in the writing.  Maybe the translator lost the personnal element from the french to English.  Who knows, will let you know more when finished.  There are some areas that are the same as Lost Splendor.
    One chapter gives quite a vivid description on the discovery of Rasputin in the river and the following autopsy.

Hey, I would like to see formal pictures of Felix, especially his ball outfits, but I would like to see many formal picyures of Felix because I haven't seen many of them .  :-/

Yes, Irina was a HH,  but not as Yusupov. She was a HH, Princess of Russia.

i knew that.  but i thought the style of "highness" was a hold-over from the khanate (sp?) days.   Yusuf was a "highness" (Ivan the Terrible referred to him as such).   and then there's catalogue  published in 1839 that bears the title THE MUSEUM OF PRINCE YUSUPOV, CONTAINING CANVASSES, MARBLES, IVORY AND PORCELAIN LOCATED IN THE PALACE OF HIS HIGHNESS IN ST.PETERSBURG.

and i could have sworn that J. Ferrand used the term "son altesse" in his biography of the family.

but you may be correct, after all... this is an excerpt from the Chivalric Orders website:

"3). there's no mention of a qualification for her husband's family...
