Beautiful wedding, indeed. Georg Friederich looked SO happy and almost sweet in his smile and gestures. The top hat was perfect! Sophie absolutely lovely. The family tiara stunning. I found the blend of structure to the service and the slightly less rigid body language of the bride and groom and guests was quite refreshing and fun.

The little ring bearers and flower girls in their traditional sailor suits were precious.

Also guests: Archduke Georg von Habsburg, his wife Eilika and Gabriela von Habsburg, Elisabeth in Bavaria and husband, Alexander of Schaumburg Lippe and wife Nadja, etc...

In my opinion, this wedding was more touching than any other royal wedding this year. They were so happy and adorable, Georg Friedrich looked marvellous and the dress of the bride (designed by German designer Wolfgang Joop) was exceptional and totally beautiful, and with the Isenburg family tiara and bridal veil a wonderful combination of modern times and past times.

Just a few first impressions from the wedding (I guess there will be loads more in the upcoming hours and days):

In the carriage. You can see the amazing tiara a bit better. But it looked even better on tv.

I agree completely with Lucien on how this wedding was more touching than any other this year. The event seemed so real, personal, "common" in a human way, yet regal and historic with no pretension. I loved it. The formal suit Georg wore with the top hat was so much more princely than a military style uniform; and yes, Sofie's dress, historic tiara and integration of past and present was terrific. They both looked simply great; a fairytale image.

The religious service allowed for some giggles and happy glances, making the Lutheran event both serious and candid. Lovely.

I cannot get over Georg Friedrich's resemblance to his great-great grandfather. Wow! Also, when he smiles, I totally see Queen Victoria.

I agree. Amazing, isn't it? His eyes and certain expressions, even if only for seconds, reminded me totally of Wilhelm II.

Series by Bunte. In the evening the bride had the tiara given by then Crown Prince Wilhelm to his bride Cecilie.

Btw,the rings used in todays wedding by TIH were the very same rings used by the parents of Georg Friedrich,
Lulu and Donata,at their wedding. As we know GF's father was killed in an accident while serving in the army in the '70's.
His mother, after years, married again,to the Duke of Oldenburg,so these two special rings were availeble.

Fortunately, Georg Friedrich seems to be a much steadier person than Wilhelm II.

All and everyone wanted to pose graciously for the photographer of Royalblog, except Schumi Schaumburg...
that little boy with the blond, and he made that clear in a very rude and un-aristocratic way...
maybe more the way of his blond golddiger...bah,what a crapule du monde sort of guy is that, unbelieveble.

But anyway,back to the wedding:

Sadly, I do not know much about Georg, but it is comforting to know that he isn't as un-steady as Wilhelm.

I don't know much about Georg Friedrich either, but he's managed to stay out of the British papers - unlike Ernst August of Hanover. The only British reference to him that I've come across was in The Times a few years ago, when he was quoted as saying that he was glad he wasn't Prince William, as he'd been able to go to university and get on with his life in peace, without being constantly shadowed by the press.

He sounds a nice sensible sort of fellow, who is happy to keep a low profile.
