That is барышня Усова to you! :-)

Их грустный, опущённый вид,
Как речь безмолвная могилы,
Горячку сердца холодит.

Aha! Eureka! I think I may have stumbled across something interesting.......

LEE, Robert (1793-1877)- The Last Days of Alexander, and the First Days of Nicholas, Emperors of Russia (London, 1854)

Here is the online link: https://archive.org/details/lastdaysalexand01leegoog

pages 26 discusses house at "Yoursoff"......,page 31, discusses what his plans are when he "decomissions himself"....

somewhere in the book is a section on Tsar Alexander 1st admonishing someone about a pregnant woman being mistreated.....hmmm

Hmm....is the name "Yoursoff" linked to the name "Usov"???.....is there a connection there ???.....its pretty out there I agree...but....I wonder if somehow this is the connection of the rare dna we carry....the time period is correct from what I have been informed about how far back we share a common ancestor....and yes I am aware of the research being carried out on the various family lines....interesting times we live in......!

Юрсов (French spelling: Yoursouff) seems to be the name of a Tartar village in the Crimea and has nothing whatsoever to do with Усов.

"Yoursouff" is probably a French rendering of the original Tartar pronunciation of modern Гурзуф / Gurzuf / Hurzuf northeast of Yalta. It was an estate of the Counts Vorontsov, as described in the book. The French spelling perhaps due to the estate's earlier owner being Duke Armand Emmanuel de Richelieu, Governor-General of New Russia.

...Also: Photo of my Grandfather Nicholas (My Fathers's father)
...most probably, a cadet of the Vladimirskoye Officer School in St.Petersburg [юнкер Владимирского военного училища]...
Yes, the monogram on shoulder straps is similar to the Vladimir school. (pic. №5).

Thank you Uncle Sasha for the photo and update.

I am saddened to report that my father Oleg Nicolaevich Usov passed away earlier this year on 4/1/2018 after a illness lasting a year and a half.
The doctors thought at time of diagnosis(stomach cancer) he would only last 3 months.
Dad was a fighter and he struggled on being determined to live to August 2018. Unfortunately he didn't make it.

I found out only at his funeral that he had been a marine engineer in Russia and was part of a special team that designed the first torpedo submarine.

More to follow later this week.

At this time one of his sons is gravely ill. And a few of us are also having some medical issues related to our genetics.

We are praying to Archangel Michael, whom Dad always mentioned was out families Patron Archangel.

Peace be with you all.

Every day we are alive is indeed a gift.

Kindest Regards,

Susannah Jane Usov

My condolences.
Your father sounded like an enigma! How old was he? If he was a cadet in Imperial Russia, as per earlier posts in this thread, he must have been about 120 years old!

Hi there,

I am going to need to double check everything. Facts not Fiction. And for that I am certainly going to need a whole lot of help.

For example if its true he was a marine engineer in Russia that did what he says then that will need to be validated somehow.
Can anyone help with this?

Regarding the school he says he went to - was he somehow getting mixed up with his Father Nicolai? My research has shown that that school was not operating after the Revolution, so either he didn't go there or the date of birth he gave the Australian Immigration was incorrect. He was a displaced refugee and had no papers.

Yes he did say he went to that particular school in Russia, however, according to Australian Immigration records and our Birth Certificates the official date of birth he gave was 10th September 1921.
Australia Immigration records show that he, his wife Anna and son Igor boarded a ship called The Protea in Naples Italy on 2nd May 1949, and arrived in Sydney on 6th June 1949.

Kind Regards,

Susannah

Thank you all for your condolences, we all appreciate it very much.

The day before my father passed a golden kestrel came into my backyard, not a bird that is found here. Stayed for quite a hew hours.

Also not sure if this is connected but its worth a mention in relation to DNA:
