Help with Identification
« on: January 02, 2005, 03:52:48 PM »

The picture was called "Royalty,Greece" on e-bay.
I am doubt...Though  a woman can be  Princess Catherine (1913- ) and a man - her husband?..I have no other idea.
Could anyone help me?

Thanks in advance

It looks like Katherine to me--she has sort of a distinctive face. I would imagine then that the man would be her husband.

I think she's one of just 2 great-grandchildren of QV left living. I think the other is one of Daisy Connaught's sons (Carl Johan?) She's apparently not in the best health (not surprising at her age).

There is a lovely full page photograph of Katherine in the current issue of Majesty. Yes it was disscussed on another  thread she, know aged 91 and Carl Johann of Sweden are the last surviving great grandchildren of Victoria. As for Katherine, she was quite pretty, but does not seem to resemble either Sophie or Tino to me, wierd.

There was some scuttlebut that Katherine wasn't Tino's at all but the product of an affair of Sophie's. With whom I don't know, but Tino was apparently carrying on a lot. There is a large age gap between Katherine and her next oldest sibling. Or it could be gossip.

Tino's mistress was Paola von Ostheim whose husband was a prince of Saxe-Weimer (who lost his title when he marriage Paola, morganatic.)

There is a book of the king's letters to Paola ...am not at home, so cannot run downstairs to pull the book.

It is entirely possible that Sophie eventually succumbed to a marital affair,  but Tino adored Katherine.

There was a photo (pretty grainy) of Paola in Inheritors of Alexander the Great. I think the book was Letters from a King  ??? or something like that. I've always meant to try it out.

Well I feel kinda stupid, I was unaware of Sophie's alleged infedelities. Is anything else known about Sophie's extramarital partner or whatever he was?

I may have that picture of Paola as I inherited most of the late George Tantzos' photos.   The book is called  A King's Private Letters  (being the letters by King Constantine of Greece to Paola Princess of Saxe=Weimar during the years 1912 t0 1923.

Just rumors .. no one named (if there was a someone.)  I have a special affection for Sophie as she was born the same day as me - and in fact the only descendant of QV to have that birthdate until the 1970s.

I share the same birthdate as Edward VIII, June 23rd. Perhaps that is why David is a favorite of mine as well. I am not sure off the top of my head if any more of Victoria's descendants share my birthday. Ithink it is just David.

Oddly, she reminds me of Queen Marie of Romania or her sister, Victoria Melita. Also, I see some resemblance to Elisabeth of Hesse-Darmstadt- especially in the eyes & the nose.

You're quite right, she does have a look of Ducky and Missy....
