I am very interested in the favorite photographs and portraits of the Imperial Family that they took with them into exile. I was wondering if anyone could post a link or a picture of the two portraits of Alexei that were taken to Tobolsk as well as the photos of Alexei sitting with his mother and a formal(?) photo of him leaning on a table (?) between two friends.

I apologize if these images have already been posted. I am currently on my Blackberry and it sometimes cannot handle the threads with a lot of pictures on them.

Thanks!

It can be very aggravating using a BB for the internet but it is convienent especially for those especially boring college classes...

Anyway, the two photographs I am referring to I saw in a book at the library. The photo showed a close-up of a wall in Ekaterinburg showing the Serov watercolor of Nicholas with two formal photos of Tatiana and Marie in the frame and the photo of Alexandra with her son on her lap with the photo of Alexei and his friends in the frame.

The two portraits were mentioned on the list of objects sent from the Alexander Palace to Tobolsk. Just today someone sent me a close-up of the Faberge egg cabinet in the Maple Room. On either side of the cabinet you can see the Kaulbach watercolors of the Grand Duchesses. Next to them is a portrait of Alexei, perhaps sent one of the two sent to Tobolsk.

Hi ;

Maj.  Jesse Carnes here.
I have an ALEXEI-foto request :
I am planing on doing a photographic quality
drawing/painting of Tsarevich Alexei and I am trying to
get as good of a working model of his face at about age
12.5---say about the area of Dec 1916/Jan 1917.

I need a good copy of the famous TOBOLSK foto of him with his hands raised in the air [as depicted on p. 30-something of Robt. Alexander's novel,  The Kitchen Boy].

Can someone lead me to an URL of it or if they can post it I would be MOST grateful.  If I do this full size in coloured pencils it must be perfect, and thus the need for a good copy of that particular foto.  THANX!! ;D :)

--Jesse
PS : may I add that if you will compare Alexei's syes, forehead shape, nose length/noseshape and also his mouth, you will see much similarity to his Paternal Grandmum,  Marie--the former Princess Dagmar of Denmark

Hi Grandduchess_42 ;

Thanx for the pix.   It MIGHT work . . . the real
problem with older fotos is the grain of the foto, if it
is not a fine foto to begin with.    That's the rub--you can only draw or paint what your eye can see and if you cannot see something then you cannot draw or paint it.
I am on a Reference Desk computer here at the University--so I will have to look at the foto on my own work computer to see how fine the grain is.

Again . . . I appreciate your kind help GD_42.  ;D :)

--Jesse
PS :  I have only one regret regarding fotos of the Imperial Family :  that Russian-genius photographer Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii never took  REAL
colour fotos of them--groups shots or individual fotos.
REALLY sad.

Wasn't someone looking for a photo of Aleksei on his pony not too long ago?
