I wonder if there are two kinds of coprolite, vegetarian or carnivorous? (Well, it needed to be asked !!), Kieran, any chance of a picture?

Thanks GDElla, ( You should really publish a Dummies guide to posters!!) you've shown just what I was refering to.

I might also like to add that, the design books used by the Faberge firm are one of the best sources of tuition with regard the painting and drawing of precious materials, from careful examination you can certainly learn lots, modelling, proportion, stylistic representation, it's all in there and of course all the wonderful styles that Faberge adapted.

If you consider that each item started life as a sketch, became a highly finished working diagram, and was then catalogued in the company archive with the item number and a stunning annotated watercolour, the paper archive must have been amazing to see.

*sigh!*

Wartski has this piece already up on their website.

I hope they do not mind that I am putting the photo up here. If Kieran has a problem, please do note hesitate to ask me to remove it.

Nice...different, un-usual!!! (Kath Day-Knight you rock*)

*K D K, is a character in Australia's most popular comedy show ever Kath and Kim, a fly on the slice of life mock-umentary, totally off thread but in it's usage totally appropriate !!

It's very moderne for 1896.

Good grief, that is unusual!  Is that a large cabochon sapphire in the winged handle?  Extraordinary - I need to look at it again to decide quite what I think about it...

I rather like it. so unusual is putting it mildly.  Pre-cursor of Deco ???  The materiel does not in itself surprise,  the creative use...was this supposed to be a set ? or a one-on ?

In case anyone is interested in George A, his scientific interest was astronomy. More on this coming out this year in a project I am working on with Arturo.

I suppose because he was a "czarevich" for a little while before his death...

You're right, it has got a Deco feel to it, may be due to the winged design for the handle.  Do you think that is a sapphire set in the handle, or maybe lapis?
I should think that it is a one off piece..........Without being too vulgar, I wonder how what the price is?

I assume it is a sapphire in the handle!!!

It has echoes of Christopher Dresser in it's design, dont you agree?
