Neither do I! I can't make out the date - 1898, or '99?

Thank you ever so much Ally! It is new to me.

To me, it looks like 1893.

Looks like 1893 to me too. Could also be 1898?

Considering how young she looks and that the photograph was taken at Wolfsgarten, I would say that it most certainly was taken in 1893. :)

I guess that it is 1893 as well, did she ever signed herself as 'Alix' after the marriage (in 1898 she was the Russian Empress, Alexandra).

I believe that she used the name Alix throughout her life. Nicky never called her Alexandra (even though it was her "official" name), but Alix and I believe other close relations did that too. This photo from 1899 is signed Alix.

I do not recall seeing this photo before

This photo comes from the book "Briefe der Zarin Alexandra von Russland an ihre Jugendfreundin Toni Becker-Bracht". In it the caption says 1893.

Thank you! Yes, now I see it does look like '1893'. Sadly, I didn't think she looked all that young in the photo - perhaps because she was squinting in the light.

That is one of my favourite Alix photos.

What is written underneath Alix? Starts with a B - I assume the location of the picture?

It says "Wolfsgarten 1893"on the one posted by Ally Kumari and "Bernstorff 1899" on the one posted by Erika.
"The Correspondence of the Empress Alexandra of Russia with Ernst Ludwig and Eleonore, Grand Duke and Duchess of Hesse. 1878-1916"  -  http://www.bod.de/index.php?id=296&objk_
"Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig and Princess Alix of Hesse and by Rhine in Italy - 1893"
