I'm a little surprised that this book doesn't have its own thread yet (at least not that I could find!).

Well - anyway - this latest volume by the author of such other respected works as "The way it was" and "Maria Nikolaevna and her palace in Petersburg" has been published in limited edition: - 500 copies each in Russian and English. It is very good - well-researched and with lots of interesting pictures of this branch of the family and their homes. If you'd like a copy of the English version, Sue Woolmans currently has them for £23 ($38.50) plus postage and will be glad to sell you one if you drop her a line at woolmans@aol.com, and can pass the proceeds to Zoia personally when she sees her later this month.

If there's anyone who missed out first time round, Sue has returned from Russia with 7 more copies, so you can still get in touch if you'd like one - contact details and price as above!

I find this a very good book about the descendants of GD Maria N, duchess of Leuchtenberg. Those who want to more about this branche, must buy this.

Hi,

I bought my copy at the Ticehurst Royalty Digest Conference in April.
I knew vertually nothing about the Leuchtenbergs and found Zoia's book so very informative and with loads of pictures and all captioned correctly....

I would greatly recommend this book and one that Zoia did years ago on the Maryinsky Palace.

I've just finished it, and thought it was a wonderful book!  I had also just read "The Secret Letters of the Last Tsar" (Nicholas & Marie Feodorovna's correspondence).  In it there was a passage:
"Peter was in Paris for two days for the funeral service of poor Yuri and said that the French were very poliite and courteous.  It is so sad that his poor children, Sergei and Ileana, only arrived two hours after his death."

There was no reference as to whom Yuri was, although most other people mentioned in the letters were identified.  My guess is the editor (Edward J. Bing) didn't know whom it was.  Although I figured out Peter was Olga's husband (of Oldenburg) from the context, it was only after reading Zoia's wonderful book that I was able to connect the Yuri to Georgy, the 6th Duke of Leuchtenberg!  Who would know that the family called him Yuri! Thank you Zoia!

I think this book is a must have for those interested in the Romanovs.  The ongoing connection of the Leuchtenbergs with the Romanovs is fascinating and convoluted.  Zoia's book helps clarify many of the connections ( or should I say hook-ups) between the two families.
