My favorite caption was "1914, Tsarskoe Selo, the maid of honor Anna Vyrubova canoeing." Never seen one of the girls mistaken for Anna V. before.

I found it equally amusing how often they had the wrong names attached to each Grand Duchess. And I mean completely wrong! Like a photo featuring Marie and Olga and it describes them as Anastasia and Tatiana. They had a 50/50 chance of getting at least one name right and managed not to time and time again, lol.

Different people must have been doing the captioning on different photos don't you think? Otherwise how on earth could the same person have been able to accurately label a member of the court or imperial retinue but not have been able to tell two GDs apart?

It was probably one of the elephants in the Alexander Park. They had an elephant house on the grounds. Here's some information:

Yargh!  I only did a quick check, but in the pic of Nicholas feeding the elephant next to a a somewhat Siamese appearing youth, the caption referred to the Heir and the sailor Derevenko. Ya gotta say yikes on that one. Methinks the captions might literally be shifted sideways or something  from their proper photo. Still, some golden new ones to be grateful for.

I believe TN is wearing her wig...but also it's a good example of how the girls were not always dressed in pairs, but in a checkerboard pattern...in that Olga and Marie would be dressed the same and TN and the imp also... I'm referring to the stripe on the dresses
O and M have a light colour while TN and A have a darker one .

This is a good example of the pointlessness of holding back  photos one finds on the web. I saw that Russian site a week ago via a friend, and now it's on AP.  My point is ,the turnaround  time ( how fast something goes) of on the web  and then AP is getting shorter...so if you see it, post it lol
