This seems unusual to me. There are many photos from this day ,( with the clock and the Little Pair in the fur hats)  but I don't remember one with AN in the front.
If one of our Russian speakers would translate what comes after thier names, thank you in advance.

Olga, Tatiana, and Maria with their sailor nannies and some other people(?):



I like this little series, looks like some hand-kissing procession or similar nonsense. Tatiana is giving the whole thing some space while Alexei sticks his hiney in there (I can also just make out Anastasia's head). I'm confused as to who is who after that. I see a woman (either the Empress or Olga) getting a kiss to the hand. No clue who the woman is with her back to us...at first I thought Olga but the waist doesn't seem right??



Maria shows up and joins Tatiana hanging back while Anastasia climbs on something to stand on behind Alexei. Can't tell where Olga went, unless she's wedged back there behind Marie lol

Thanks! The sailor nanny one is new to me. I've seen just one of the later photos  and the site said  the sailors were in line to  receive  an end of voyage  gift from Alix , which seems likely

This looks like a simular event...however Olga is younger  here ( perhaps it's 1910) and AF is standing....but I can certainly see her sitting during the gift giving  in later years

Or it could be Maria in 1912. (I have a photo of all four girls on the yacht in those dresses, and Olga's hair is up. The hats are different, however, so it's probably not the same day.)

It's not scientific , but her big , yet thin feet, her general thinness and her position of importance next to AF, tell me it's Olga....plus the cheek bone.  But it's remarkable how much the 4 girls were dressed  alike ...we tend to think of them as 2 by 2...but there was plenty  of all four in the same and seemingly it happened even more often on the yacht.  I just noticed the Tsar's in the photo as well and they are in front of a hatch .

The girl 's hair is fairly dark for Olga. However it's in the shadow of the engine room's cover ...or covered by the huge  bow ...so there's no hair in sunlight . The hair is very like what Olga wore in the 1910 footage of the family ( including Sunshine Aunt) getting out of a small boat...and later Olga being tackled by an officer in some game. We know it's Olga because TN had no bow that day  and  can be seen laughing with thier Aunt Olga A. when Olga N.  hits the ground . lol

IMO, the posture signals Maria. There's something about her stance that always stands out for me. Also, Maria seems like the one most likely to get her hem caught on a rail without noticing.

but isn't the dress too long for Maria? I think at the time when this picture was taken the hem of her dress would be slightly below her knees.

I was thinking the same thing, Justine. Then again, as Sahrushka said, it does look a little similar to Maria.

For me as well. She stood with a lower center of gravity, back on her  heels, tummy out  ...and it's not like Olga couldn't get her hem caught and be too absorbed to notice during the gift giving ! lol!  ...if there was only one GD in the photo , who would be standing with Alex during a ceremony to pass out gifts ? Olga of course.

 Also the girl there is just too thin to be Marie imo. Marie had big feet...Imp and Olga had very long feet ... big, but thinner than Marie's . ....and as Justine  pointed out , the hem is very low for Marie at this time. It's was even lower than we see it here because the hem  was  indeed caught.  Of course TN had a bow in 1912,  I said she did not in the 1910 footage lol! . We'll have to agree to disagree

Just going by the Empress's clothes and weight and hairstyle it looks as if it was taken around 1910, also if you look at pictures of GD Olga around this time she was still wearing her hair down. If it was around 1910 then the GD in the photo would be too tall to be Maria and not slender enough to be Tatiana. So for what its worth IMO I think its Olga. I agree with BlessOTMA also that the cheekbone looks more like Olga. However Sarushka is right that of all the GD's Maria would be the most likely to have her dress caught up although it looks as if her foot is raised onto the bar behind as she only has one foot on the ground. Great picture though and one I've never seen before.
