I like the one of him in the cossack uniform. I think his life when well must have been very curious. It's so hard to imagine a boy his age being involved at the Stavka. I think Alexis liked it there as he could be with his father and travel on the imperial train and also be away from his mother and sisters. I think he was a typical boy and enjoyed being away from the female smothering. Alexandra was understandably protective of him although I think Alexis found it all a touch too much. He seemed very happy when on the banks of the Dneiper with a shovel and so on. He really must have had great patience to endure his illness. His last few months cannot have been easy stuck inside for most of the time in the Ipatiev House. From what can be read it was hot and airless and uncomfortable. Alexis was largely confined to his bed. That must have been so tedious for him.

Oh, definately tedious. Like in his diary when for several days he writes "The whole day was just like yesterday." Poor Alexei...

It probably wasn't as tedious as we think. I doubt he was feeling very well at all, and what do you want to do with you feel ill? Lay in bed. It was most likely worse for NAOTMA. But he probably was uncomfortable, I'd hate to think how his leg felt.

But in his diary, he DID ask God to have mercy on him because he was so bored.(That and letters to his mother reveal he could be comically dramatic!)

He had a wonderful and clever sense of humor. Like when he said his mum on a leter that he was going to start selling his stuff because he lost in a card game.
He was special.

Yeah he did. Like in his diary, I find it very amusing he writes over and over 'the whole day was just like yesterday.' And I think in a letter to Nicholas 'I hope for have good dreams, for instance about me!'

Does anyone have the picture, I think that was taken on the same day of him feeding a sheep?

I believe that the donkey was given to Alexei by the King of Italy. Vittorio Emmanuel or something like that.

I thought that it was Grand Duchess Anastasia in the back. But, it looks like Grand Duchess Tatiana. Does anybody know how old Alexei was in the pic? It looks like he's around 6 or 7. So, that would make Tatiana 13 or 14. She don't look that age to me in the pic. Any thoughts?

I think it's Tatiana -- I don't see any bangs/fringe. Also, Aleksei looks more like 4 or 5 to me.
