The Mauve Room still exists but its since been furnished with replica and look-alike furniture. The originals were removed at some stage and this new furniture put in for a film that was made about the IF. Alexandra's white piano has been replaced with an ordinary brown wood one!!!
You cannot see the fireplace wall and I suspect the fireplace was removed and there is a very large sepia photo of the room as it was originally covering that wall. The dressing room, the bedroom, the Pallisander and Maple rooms are open with display cabinets but the Art Nouveau decoration put in by Nicholas II was removed after WW2. The Studies and Dressing Rooms of Nicholas II are also open.
These rooms on the left side wing as you face the Palace have been open for some years and the exhibition is called "Reminiscences in the Alaxander Palace". In addition the three State rooms across the back facing the gardens were opened in 2011. They are the Semicircular Hall, the Portrait Hall and the Marble Drawing Room. The "Mountain Hall" which is adjacent is presently being renovated. They use the word Mountain for the slide that was in the room as an indoor amusement for the royal children.
The wing on the right side of the Palace is also being renovated. These were the rooms of Alexander III and are being converted into exhibition rooms. When I was there last year they were not open as there were workmen busy in there.
If you visit
http://eng.tzar.ru/ you can see all the details of the various parts of the Catherine and Alexander Palaces that are open along with various buildings in the grounds of the Catherine Palace. The grounds of the Alexander Palace are overground but it is still possible to walk round them and make out the various features. The Chinese Bridges have been restored and the Large Chinese Bridge now has replicas of the Chinese figures that were on it but destroyed by the Germans in WW2.
I hope this helps. I am planning to return next year,
Alan
