He seems to be showing it  off in this photo...I just realized his outfit was made for mobility rather than looks..and  N II was , shall we say, "well muscled"  in that area anyway lol! But I think it was unfair the girls had to wear long skirts while playing... however  what was to be done? Women would be wearing such for some time to come on the courts....at least they got to wear special shoes! ...they look like a precursor for sneakers

Yes! How uncomfortable would that get? Long skirtin the tennis courts and playing. Ugh.

As long as the skirts aren't long enough to trip over, they wouldn't be a tremendous inconvenience.
It would be very difficult to run in them... the style was long, straight down and not wide...but running wasn't  as important  to their game as it is today.  However unless one tries playing tennis in such garment and knows .... I tend to think it was a distinct  disadvantage.lol

Oh, yes - tripping or not, you tend to sweat during tennis. How terribly hot would that be!   :o
