« on: March 03, 2012, 11:02:27 AM »
Hello,

Just found this at amazon.de- http://www.amazon.de/The-Romanovs-Intimate-Chronicle-Russian/dp/0297852663/ref=sr_1_32?ie=UTF8&qid=1330678913&sr=8-32

The Romanovs: An Intimate Chronicle of the Russian Royal Family by Simon Sebag Montefiore, will be published in January 2014.
Does someone know anything about this author?

Thanks!

Montefiore wrote a very interesting book about Catherine the Great's relationship with Potemkin as well as a couple of books about Stalin - it will be interesting to read his take on the whole Romanov dynasty.

Sashenka is a pretty poor book, which, I suspect, only found a publisher because the author was already well-known. It has its good bits - the portrayal of the paranoid atmosphere around Stalin, but this obviously drew on the author's earlier research for one of his factual books.

Mr Sebag Montefiore should stick to non-fiction, at which he is highly accomplished.

I have a couple of pieces of errata for his book "Stalin Court of the red Tsar". i made some posting on the 12O'clockhigh.net site and got the following answers: Leonid Khrushchev son of future soviet leader Nikata Khrushchev was shot down and killed in air combat on 11 March 1943 by Fw (sergent) Wilhem Theiman of JG 51 (JG is short for Jadgeswader Fighter wing). The book also has Stalin's son Vasily accidently killing a HSU (Hero of the Soviet Union) winner while fishing while drunk with an air rocket. the mans name was K.A. Grigorievich he was badly wounded but survived. One can safely say after reading this book it was a whole lot healthier living at the court of nicholas II and the other Tsars! Then thre is his book "Young Stalin"  Stalin as mafia boss  the Tsarist police ect come off usually like the keystone cops! His book on the Tsars sounds interesting and should be quite good. No doubt he will find something new on them.
