Sound interesting. Do you know if it's a sort of biography or dsomething more like "A lifelong Passion"?

Really don't know anything beyond what I posted.
But St. Martin's Press; and 400 pages makes it very interesting already  ^^ lol!

Here's what I found on goodreads.com:

For the first time since Robert Massie’s classic Nicholas and Alexandra, comes a penetrating and deeply personal study of the lives of the last Russian Tsar and Tsarina that gives profound psychological insight into their marriage and how it shaped the events that engulfed them

Few characters in history are as fascinating or controversial as Nicholas and Alexandra. From their passionate love to their horrifying execution, they are alternately viewed as innocent victims of Bolshevik assassins or blamed for causing the Revolution themselves.

Much has already been written about their lives. But acting as a curator of the many conflicting histories, acclaimed author Virginia Rounding offers a different kind of biography, with an intimate look that probes the souls of these unforgettable figures, and tells the story of their passion and its consequences for Russia. Through newly revealed letters and diaries, Rounding explores the Empress’s ill health, examines the enigmatic triangular relationship between Nicky, Alix and her confidante Ania Vyrubova, and looks anew at the reasons behind their reliance on the infamous Rasputin. Her conclusions are surprising. With eloquence and compassion, Rounding makes these characters come alive, presenting them in all their complexity and ardor, guiding the reader into their vanished world.

It sounds really interesting! Even though it might be a book with nothing really new in it, I for myself do not think I know enough or have enough books about Nicolas and Alexandra. I am just starting on this Romanov-path, so the more information the better . I am also quite curious about the newly revealed letters and diaries.

Amazon.co.uk says the book will be available in february 2012.

I could not help myself, I pre-ordered it. (also, when I pre order now, I cannot forget to order when the books comes out. I probably will forget about this, so it will be a nice surprise when the postman arrives with the parcel)

greetings, Griae

Have to say that I'm not feeling this at all.  It's just been done to death.
So long and thanks for all the fish

IMO, there's no such thing as done to death when it comes to the Nicholas and Alexandra love story, especially if there is legitimate new info.

I've great expectations, as they say, about this book. I loved Massie's one, but alas it was written before that most documents were available and, expecially, before the discovery of all the 11 corpses & everything else. It was and is a wonderful book - but i think that new documents & stuff could be something great for another A&N book. Like bestfriendgirl, it's never enough for me - maybe because my own obessive way to love something is never full.

The idea that the last word has been said about this is amusing to me...and I'm not the biggest fan of this aspect of the Romanov story. So much is now available that was not before...and any rendering  St Martins feels  worthy enough to publish , should  be of interest imo
