2012 will be Queen Elizabeth's 60th year on the throne.  She is the second longest Sovereign to reign in the U.K. (only Victoria is ahead of her).  A few more years and she'll beat Victoria's record.

Speaking of manners, how is it that "National Review Online" refers to the Queen in terms of "Her Royal Highness?" Sovereigns are Majesties, P/princes and P/princesses are Highnesses, royal or otherwise.

Re wigs. There must be very few ladies in their late eighties who sport such an abundance of their own hair that it looks immaculate at all times, as HMs must and even fewer women of any age who don't resort to artiface of some kind.

Thank you Feodorovna for your intelligent comment.....most appreciated.

In 1982 July 9th,  Michael Fagan entered HM bedroom in the early morning hours.  One of the first things he noticed, as he reported to several newspapers, were the beautiful white  wigs all neatly sitting on HM dressing table.  BTW, I have posted several photos of HM wearing this gleaming white and very semi-natural looking wig here on the AP Forum.   She still wears it to this day, each curl and wave in the exact same place it was 10 years ago.  I don't appreciate the snarky remarks.  I have something of interest to add to this discussion, while others can only criticize.  Sad really.

Douglas, 1982 that is 29 year´s ago. HM goes to white hair only in the late 90´ When Fagan had seen wig´s then there were brown. Give it up. It is a lie and was a lie.

And what's evenmore sad is that Douglas is taking the word of a madman which may have been reported in some newspaper; now if that's proof of Douglas' assertions, I'm the Queen of Sheba!!! Hilarious!

It will be busy at Sandringham on the 25th!
I love Sandringham, I am very lucky to live so close to it. I can remember when I was about 8, my Nani took my cousin and I around it on a guided tour. I was too young to fully appreciate it then, but I remember loving all the paintings on the walls and knowing that it was the Queen's house. Two years ago, we saw the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall at the flower show, which was amazing. My aunt was pretty peeved about being stuck behind their car though!

I agree, it is has a lovely homely feel and doesn't appear to have changed much since Edward VII's time! Full of wonderful objects with wonderful history attached. I would love to visit the upstairs quarters. James Pope-Hennessey described it very interestingly in "A Lonely Business".

The Daily Mail is a touch out of date. Timothy Laurence is now a Vice Admiral!

As Edward will be attending the skiing championships this year it got me thinking- does the Queen ski or does anyone know that she has? I've never heard that either her or Philip have but i wasn't sure, anyone know ?
