Windsor Jewelry We Love

This is all very boring and destroying a very worthwhile thread.  CanĀ“t we get back to discussing the provenance, history and details of these fantastic gems.  Those with nothing worthwhile to say should simply read and enjoy as I do!!!
Eric, leave this to the experts and contribute where any sound knowledge you might have is of relevance.
Thanks

The problem is who are the experts ? Anyway I agree that we should return to the thread.

I do wonder which tiara Kate would wear at her first formal occasion ? Any bets ? I hope it is not a big and chunky ones that Queen Mary used to wear.

The problem is who are the experts ?

Does that question really need answering?

It's quite obvious that most of us with a serious interest in this subject have a profound respect for those members who are learned in this field, and who continually share their knowledge and expertise with those of us who wish to broaden our existing knowledge.  Inaccurate statements and relentlessly contentious argument inhibit this sharing of knowledge.

I would like to know what Ashdean and GDElla think on the subject of appropriate tiaras for Kate?  Do we think that she may well continue to wear the tiara that she wore for her wedding?

I do not see Kate as a jewelry person period.

I am sure she will wear her wedding tiara as it suits her but I do not think we can expect anything in the jewelry department like Diana as Kate's style to me appears to be minimalism.

There is nothing wrong with minimalism if it suits and minimalism suits her well.

True............however when you are a member of the Royal Family, people want to see it's members dripping in bling! At least I do, otherwise what's the point? We want some grandeur.

I thought the red dress the Duchess wore a few evenings ago was far too simple. Something to set her apart from looking like your average movie star would be nice, i.e. some historical jewels!!

Eddie,

With regrads to historic jewels, I guess we have to wait and see if she goes to the next State Oerning of Parliment.

We shouild not expect a great show because Kate cannot (or does not want to) wear jewelry like Diana did.

Fear not - I predict that the Duchess will blossom into a jewelry hound eventually.  For now, there is clearly a strategy in place to ease her into official life slowly - especially while William is still in the service.  Part of that is obviously limiting her official engagements, but another part may well be limiting her adoption of traditional royal trappings.  Not to mention, she doesn't exactly have a full jewelry box yet.  Once Wills is out of the service and the couple begin full time royal duties, the sheer number of receptions, banquets etc. she'll have to attend will just about force her to accessorize more than she does now.  So I bet we'll then be marveling at the jewels that begin appearing on her.

That said, given her tall yet slight frame, and her natural modern style, I would also bet she'll lean toward smaller, simpler pieces (more Princess Anne and less Queen Mary / Camilla).  But that may allow some of the smaller, simpler jewels we haven't seen in a while to emerge from the vault - or maybe even some new commissions.

The wedding tiara will no doubt reappear, but I also continue to believe that she will also appear in the Lover's Knot tiara at some function within the next 12 months.  She almost has to!  I mean, the Queen won't wear it, Camilla will NEVER wear it, so unless it is given to Kate, that beautiful tiara would have to sit unused for the next 50 years.  Unthinkable.

I know it's so associated with the Princess of Wales, but given her new title and the loveliness of the piece, I would love to see the Cambridge Lover's Knot tiara make an appearance at some point. It's already been at least 14 years since it was last worn and I think it would be very fitting on the Duchess. I agree that she needs lighter pieces--she's so slender, I can't see her being able to carry off one of the heavier pieces. Too bad some of the lighter tiaras were passed off to the other branches of the family--I think the sapphire tiara (designed by Albert for Victoria) that went to Princess Mary would be lovely--especially since she has a sapphire engagement ring and lovely blue eyes. Perhaps there are some older tiaras that can be refitted to be modernized.

edited to add--great minds think alike Chris.  :)  ;)

We must have been writing at the same moment, Grandduchessella! And had the same thought! (wink).

I agree.  I think that she almost has to start to wear the Cambridge Lovers Knot tiara for a multipilicity of reasons.

For a start, the association with the title, secondly, the association with Diana and thirdly because it is a very feminine and piece of jewellery.  Although without doubt a very valuable piece, it's scale is not overwhelming like some of the other tiaras, and the delicacy of the diamond scrollwork coupled with the beauty and fluidity of the pear-shaped hanging pearl drops make it a very charming and elegant jewel - perfectly suited to Kate's style.

I wonder what has become of QV's sapphire and diamond tiara?  I know that it was still in the possession of the late Earl of Harewood until recently....it really is a lovely and delicate piece of jewellery.......

We should probably move this discussion to a different thread since this is for items we hate.  :)  Perhaps to William and Kate's thread?

Probably - the problem is that the main contributors to the conversation don't really hate many pieces - we like them all too much!

I think that discussion has probably run it's course anyway....aren't we near the page limit for a discussion anyway?

Maybe we just need a new discussion about Windsor jewellery - whether we love or hate it....?
