After reading through these posts i think we need to remember that we are trying to gain fact. Hypothesis and and unsourced quotes can only draw their strength from other credited sources. I dont mean to be negative, i think the quote is plausible but given the circumstances it lacks strength and so until further investigation this conversation will continue to go round in circles. I have a lot of respect for Massie and thats what gives me the confidence in the plausibility of it.

How is it known that this was false?
Also if the book was written in '68 a lot of things have changed since then. I don't even think the graves had been discovered at the time. It's been over 40yrs and yet that book still seems to be the definitive book on the last Romanov's.

If you read the entire thread, you'll found out that the source provided by Massie is not clear. None tells it's not true; we were discussing that we can't relocate the source, and none of the first-hand accounts tell anything about that. Historically speaking, this is strange and not enough to say that a fact is really happened.
