Suitors, crushes, boyfriends, marriage, etc.
« on: January 09, 2005, 09:26:06 PM »
I was just wondering that because we all know what was going on w/ Maria and the Big Pair when the sailors and officers were around. lol... What about Anastasia, though? You don't hear about her feelings for others too much, is it because she was considered to be "too young" back then at 16/17?

As far as I know, there is no mention of Anastasia having a crush on anyone in particular. She was a tomboy and a prankster and more interested in fooling around than flirting with the soldiers. It could be that she was a late bloomer. She spent half her teen years in captivity and there were certainly a lot of other things to think about. The family was assassinated when she was barely 17.

Do you think Anastasia would've ever married if she had survived? Since she was the "wild child" in the family, would there have been anyone who might've wanted to marry her?

Sure, I think she could've found someone who liked her enough to marry her, if not love her.  Probably would be the last one to marry though because of being the youngest (girl) and the fact that she wasn't incredibly beautiful like OTM (although she was a pretty girl).  I like the idea of her marrying some giant American tycoon and being a wonderful hostess for society. ;D

She would have been married off to some other royal, or possibly a noble.

It is foolish to speculate whom she would have eventually married, but the fact that she was a tomboy has nothing to do because she was only 17 at the time of her death, still a child really (all the romanov children were more childish and infantile than they ought to be according to their age). I'm almost convinced they would have all married  ebing rich, famous, well brought up, pretty and well connected genealogically speaking.

I agree. Although Nicholas and Alexandra cared about their daughters' happiness, I have no doubt that their marriages would have remained political. Establishing and maintaining ties with royal families in other countries was very important, not only for additional land, but for wealth. I'd imagine that they would have all been married to royals to keep the royal bloodlines going. Besides, most royal marriages were arranged. Nicholas and Alexandra were lucky in that they loved each other passionately. They couldn't guarantee the same for all of their daughters.

Actually, Lord Mountbatten had a crush on Maria, not Anastasia.

Sure she would have married. I don't think there is any doubt about that. It is just so sad that she never got the chance.
