Maybe she wasn't as interested in boys like Maria. Or mabye Maria's interest in boys annoyed her. You know, kind of like the "oh brother!" stuff tomboys usually do. XDD

I would think that she wouldn't have gotten it since they always searched the mail they wouldn't let something like that go through. But obviously it wasn't thrown away and someone had kept it since I got to see it.

You have to keep in mind her age and the circumstances. When she was the age where girls usually get interested in boys the circumstances weren't great for her to be flirting. Some people take the whole 'tomboy' title way too seriously. Maria wasn't incredibly boy crazed, she had a few crushes but she just liked to talk to them and learn about their wives and children. She was very interested in their stories. In Fate of the Romanovs, Yurovsky and others go on about how Anastasia was always with Maria and when Maria was 'flirting' Anastasia was right by her side doing the same.

  Well a boy in America who has heard about and/or seen newspaper or magazine photos of a daughter of the Russian tsar and writes a letter proposing to her may hardly be considered a 'suitor'. But it is indeed a cute anecdote and one might wish that Anastasia saw it and was flattered by the interest shown, even from thousands of miles away.

I don't think she would have had any suitors. After all, the age of 16 was when the Grand Duchesses' became "women", so that was probably the age they were allowed to marry at. (Correct me if I'm wrong) Anastasia's family fell out of power when she was 15 - not even 16. So she had no chance to even discuss the topic of marriage with her parents.

I don't think Alexandra prevented any eligible suitors from approaching Anastasia. Rather, as Grand Duchess Jennifer pointed out, Anastasia was simply too young to seriously consider marriage while her family was still in power.

I doubt she had much opportunity to be in contact with boys her own age (aside from family). Olga had crushes on older officers, and Maria had a favorite soldier (also older than she), but I've never read anything similar about Anastasia.

Well, I don't think 16 was the age they were allowed to marry. Remember, Nicolas rebuffed a marriage proposal for Maria when she was 16, saying that she was just a schoolgirl. About the suitors - well, even if Anastasia had crush, she couldn't have had a real suitor, since she died at the age of 17. She was just too young...
