Yes in a letter to her daughter Dagmar, warning her not to follow her example with her own daughter-in-law, Alicky.

Thank you both. Did Lovisa really felt lonely in Denmark ? She had no parents, but her grandfather, Prince Frederik of The Netherlands, lived until Lovisa was 30.

She seems to have been quite lonely, retreating into religion and her family.

Lovisa must indeed be lonely. She did not get along with her mother-in-law and most of her sisters-in-law (Thyra seemed to be closer to her than either Alix or Dagmar). Her religion (some called it bigotry) and wealth kept the distance with others.

For Lovisa wasn't on quite good terms with Queen Louise and her sisters-in-law, maybe she was with her father-in-law, the King ?? Or with Prince Valdemar ?

The King and Queen of Denmark in one of the first colour photographs. The picture was taken in France, if I remember correctly. Queen Louise doesn't look like she's ''amused'' at all and you could say she looks a bit stubborn. Frederick has some way the same expression on his face. Still I think it's a lovely photograph of the Royal Couple in their older days.

Hi,

I think if this woman were to smile, she would be quite attractive.  Unfortunately, she was a rather dour individual and suffered at the hands of her Danish relatives.
Somehow I can't quite fathom that she and Marie d' Orleans (who chased fire trucks) were in the same family!!!

I've seen a photo of her smiling and it really make her a bit prettier but she had bad teeth so possibly didn't want to show them. Also that period was not a time of often smiling Royals.

What is the story with Prince Gustav?  I can see his sister never marrying, as she was probably born to help her mother, but him?  I can't seem to find anything on him.

Well, there isn't much to tell really. He had a very uneventfull life, unmarried and without any real ambitions. As a child he was quite obese due to an illness. He made a career in the army, but retired in an early age. He spend his life at his estate, Egelund Castle, build 1915-1917 by his mother Dowager Queen Lovisa.
