Some more....first two of ''Aunt Swan's'' mother Lovisa, Frederick VIII and Lovisa, Frederick and Lovisa with their family, the one gdella poster earlier on of Lovisa and Frederick and Lovisa's daughter princess Thyra of Denmark.

Dont mean to doubt you RN, but this is Lille Louise, and not Thyra. Lovely image of her though!

Yes your all right it is Louise. I just wrote Thyra down without thinking and checking because it was labeled down as Thyra in the archives were I found it. So with my unsharpness you can doubt me every day ;).... thank you very much for pointing that out to me PrinceEddy1864 and other like Svetabel.

That was the rumor. I don't know how much validity there was to it. She does seem to have been unhappy in her marriage, though.

Eric--Thyra never married. It was Dagmar who married Jørgen Castenskiold in 1922.

One of Louise Jr's names was Thyra--perhaps that's where some ID confusion came in?

Thanks for the correction on Thyra. I read the rumour about Louise too, that is why I wonder if it was an arranged marriage.

It was just a rumour. Louise died after months of ilness, although I have read that her ilness was caused by her trying to drown herself in a lake. She was very homesick for the most of her married life, which started the rumours, but I think that she did love her husband.

I heard that she was drowned too...She had just two children and doubtless would not have killed herself unless she could have had depression. It is more understood now.

She had three children, but the rumour of her suicide by drowning has been proven as just a rumour.

Frederick in a photo by Lewis Carroll

This was taken by Charles Dodgson (Lewis Carroll) in 1863 at a studio in Badcock's Yard, Oxford. As a fan of Carroll's photography i think this is not at all representative of his best work. However it is neat to think about how he met Freddy!!

Carroll also photographed Prince Leopold, future Duke of Albany, while he was at Christ Church some years later.

Yes. It was suggested that he should court Helena around this time.

Frederick, not Lewis Carroll!   :) ;)  Was he considered for Helena? I know he was for Louise.

This photo, from mid-November 1863, was taken at Carroll's rooms in Oxford off St Adgate's Street. These were the first rooms that he had that afforded him the privacy he felt he needed for backgrounds, room for indoor skylights and a more relaxed setting for children, etc.... Carroll's friend Kitchen had telephoned at 11:30 to say he would be bringing the Prince, then studying at Christ Church, by in an hour. Despite the rush, Carroll took 2 negatives--a 6x5 half-length and an 8x10 full-length. Carroll recorded that the Prince chatted 'amiably' and he found him a 'much brighter specimen' than his royal brother-in-law--Bertie, I presume.
