Wasn't Dona's brother Ernst Gunther the one that Queen Victoria referred to as "odious Gunther"? That always cracked me up. I see he did find a wife, however odious he may have been.

Dona's father, Duke Friedrich (1829-1880)

Is there a photo of her mother Adelaide Of Hohenlohe ?

I have seen one with her and Feodore, her younger daughter.

This is a small image of Dona's mother. The painting is in Schloss Glücksburg. I was hoping someone would have a better quality image of this painting. It looks like a Winterhalter. Does anyone have a portrait of her father as a young man? ???

Princess Luise Sophie of Prussia said that her mother, Duchess Adelheid, had a great resemblance (in her youth) to Empress Eugenie of France.

I seen a bit of resemblance, but I think Eugenie was the more fashionable there is no doubt.  ;D

No doubt. Luise Sophie of course portrays a very flattering picture of her mother though the other people (contemporaries) were more critical  ;)

I have read somewhere that she had 24 sections of her bath every day,and that she had a towel for every part of her body in just one section, witch means that she was using something like 100 towels for just one bath...

Marc refers to Duchess Adelheid. In fact the cause of her death was  a bad cold - she was crazy on having a bath all day long... :-/ so she catched a cold and died.

Well...she was not the only one crazy about baths. Princess Pauline Borgese (Naopleon's beautiful sister) reputedly had ass's milk for a real milk bath. She also opened a whole to put in I think the first royal shower... ;D

Dona has two ancestors called Danneskjold-Samsöe.

The Dannieskiold-Samsøe family were the descendants of an illegitimate son of King Christian V of Denmark and his officiel maitresse, Sophie Amalie Moth.
The family was a noble family and Louise's marriage to Duke Christian of Augustenborg was another reason for him being dismissed as a candidate to the Danish throne.

Thanks for the pictures. Does the family picture give the names of the individuals? There seems to be a hint of that at the edge.

Marc provided us with this portrait of Christian (1798-1869)
