Dear David,

Thank you. That was very helpful. Do you know if Prince Vladimir Mershchersky  was  married and divorced in his younger days? did he have a wife who was a lady in waiting to the empress? do you have any mention of the Shulgin family?

My father, George Mescherski, with whom I was not close for many years as my parents divorced when I was a child, passed away in 2007 and left some unanswered questions about his roots.

All I know is that he was born in Istanbul in 1927 and left me the below ring:

Does anyone know where I can find additional information about my family?

Your father left you the  ring with Princes Meshchersky's coat-of-arms and family motto "Strength is in Faith".

In Russian Internet one can find a lof of info on Princes Meshchersky.

In Russian Wikipedia, including picture of the coat-of-arms:

http://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%9C%D0%B5%D1%89%D0%B5%D1%80%D1%81%D0%BA%D0%B8%D0%B5

English Wikipedia (without c-o-a):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meshchersky

Site about Russian families:

http://www.russianfamily.ru/m/mecher.html

and many other Russian sites.

After brief searching I've not find any mention of your father in the Internet sources but of course the Web is not the main place for research.
Could you please provide us with additional info on your father? Where did he live? Whom he was married?..Probably it'll be easy to search with such info.

Does anyone know where I can get a good sized C.O.A for the Meshchersky Family?  I got one off Wikipedia, but it is very small and if you try to blow it up, it pixelates.
Thanks

You could always draw a better version yourself (or get/pay a skilled draughtsman to do it). That's what the blazon is for.

For instance the blazon merely says "in azure a silver castle" so you are free to make it look more impressive than the one in the above version from Wikipedia (which looks digital, computer-made to me).

Hello - I am new to the forum.  Glad to have found it.  I have two letters written by Princess Caroline B. Mestchersky.  She is related to Prince Constantine Alexandrovich Mestchersky.  I have hit a dead end locating information on these individuals.  Can anyone point me in the right direction?  I know nothing about them other than they were living in St. Petersburg in 1894.

Metchcherski first name Elim

I have never encountered the name Elim in Russian anywhere else but in this family.

How is it pronounced, and where is the stress? Also, can anyone tell me the derivation?

Thanks.  I have been unable to correct my e-address on the AP, so I can only get replies here.

Does anyone know if Prince Merchersky is still living on his family estate ? How are his renovations going ?  I heard that the authorities have forced him to stop the renovations and have evicted him. Is this true  ? Stalin demolished the family estate mansion and used the rubble as landfill for a nearby motor way.
If so, I think it is very sad.
