Its known that Empress Alexandra had the largest personal jewel collection in the world and that in 1917 it was worth 50 million dolars. In today money, how much that amount would be?

If you plug $50-million in for the year 1917 you get a value of $842,482,034.83 in 2010 dollars (the most recent year available here).

I'd say that was just barely enough to live comfortably on! :-P

Here is one for UK money too, and if you want to convert than $50million in UK money is $30million roughly, I think. I did it on there, using UK money, and got £2,053,200,000.00! Still a huge amount!

That figure is vastly over estimated, in reality.
  The jewels were being inventoried for sale so overvaluing was to that aim- make the most money.
 Also Twining I think it is, states that the jewels, though indeed impressive, were essentially of low quality gem stones.
 There was a glut in the market at that time and values were not reached [Greatest Heist]
  The vast majority of her collection was in the form od gifts,  Wedding, Coronation, births, anniversaries, visit, etc. She di not buy this stuff.
