Alan's 2012 Photos of the AP, Feodorovski and Gorodok, etc.
« on: August 06, 2012, 07:30:57 PM »
Alan has been so kind as to share with us some photos he took during his visit to Tsarskoe Selo this year; I'm honored to be able to help him share them with everyone once again. I figured it would be easier to just put all of his photos in one topic, so that they all are likely to be seen. Here are his lovely shots of the Feodorovski Cathedral and Gorodok.

Alan says, "Part of [the Gorodok] has been restored and is in use as a Home for the elderly. Near there is a plaque on the wall confirming that Anastasia and Maria nursed there. It may say more but my Russian interpretation is not that good and it was way above eye level."

This batch includes some of the Vitebskiy station in St. Petersburg, as well as the Egyptian Gates, "the former entrance to the TS estate. The Royal carriages used to pass through the Gates, now the traffic goes round the outside."

Alan visited the site of the old train station this year and took some wonderful photos to share with us.

He says, "Although it has a blue metal fence around it, I was still able to get some photos of the upper part of the building which is draped in a fine green net. It seems that renovation work could start sometime. The Ekaterinburg station is now a railway museum."

About Anna Vyrubova's house, Alan says, "These also include the entrance at the side of the house. The house is on a corner. It's difficult to get good photos because of the parking in that area being so close to the palaces. These were taken over two visits."

Wonderful photos!  Thanks for posting.    Does anyone know if someone is living in Ana Vyrubova's house now or what  is the status as far as future renovation, etc.?  I noticed in the first photo there are flowers in the window boxes.   At the very least someone is trying to make the building look as if it is being "loved".

Anna Vyrubova's house is now used as a Registry Office for weddings. The plaques at the side of the entrance are about when the Registry Office is open.  It seems to be the thing out there to have your wedding photos taken in Palace gardens or the garden outside St Isaac's Cathedral. Its not unusual to see brides and their party floating round the well known places in their finery.

My three weeks out there was basically a Romanov Researching holiday, based in information I had read in this group. Later there will be pictures taken by me of Ella and Serge's Palace in St Petersburg, the Anichkov Palace, former residence of the Dowager Empress Marie, Millionaires Street where Grand Duke Mikhail declined the throne thus ending Romanov rule. You will also see Ekaterinburg, Ganina Yama and the Palce at Gatchina where Nicky grew up.
I am doing them gradually and tried not to repeat photos from two years ago.

Alan, they moved the Pushkin Wedding Registry to the Vladimir Palace in TS. Was the first photo taken prior to 2012? The last photos show grass overgrowth - it was always pristine during registry years. They announced in 2011 that Anna's house will be restored as part of Pushkin museum, Lyceum etc. to the time of the musician Teppera de Ferguson. Funds are an issue like everywhere.

Wonderful photos.  It must have been cool to go and walk where NAOTMAA once walked.

Wonderful, wonderful photos! The ones of the Alexander Palace are beautiful, just beautiful. Interesting about Anna Vyrubova's house once being a registery office.

Thank you so much for posting! Very excited to see the rest of the photos.
